"Atomica" cried unusually loudly.
Mischievous, she was grabbed by Connors after she told him that all the qualities of her body, such as density, toughness, and elasticity, would increase after she became smaller.
"Are you really crying?" Connors said to "Atomica."
Although he did not have special auditory abilities, the super hearing brought by Human Limit and Photosynthesis could clearly distinguish the emotions in the sound. Athena's Vision allowed Connors not to miss any expression or physical details.
He could tell that "Atomica" was not crying, at least not in pain.
The cry of "Atomica" stopped. "Yeah? Found by you."
"You still have to practice acting in front of me, little Rhonda," Connors said with a smile.
"Okay, I'll practice, I will practice~" "Atomica" Rhonda Pineda said with a laugh.
Since getting the reply that Connors wouldn't kill her after it was over, even allowing her to stay around to protect her, the character of "Atomica" had become more and more lively, gradually abandoning the cruelty and ruthlessness of her comic book persona. Her "bad girl" image was now more like a cute little girl.
While playing with "Atomica," the Grass Decoy that Connors left on "Catwoman" was performing its qualified surveillance function perfectly.
"Katana" had less contact with Connors. She had only heard of the name of this "Outsider" who did not join any organization, but she could never bring herself to trust him unconditionally like "Deadman."
So she yelled, "Deadman—!"
The "Deadman" had been penetrated by the tentacles of the dead souls, but his expression showed no trace of pain. Instead, he had an expression that seemed to challenge the dead souls, spreading his hands. "And then?"
"What happened?" Katana quizzed.
"These dead souls draw power from the living, but if the target is a ghost… it has the opposite effect," the Phantom Stranger explained, understanding this almost as soon as the "Deadman" faced the dead souls.
The "Deadman" had a thankful look on his face, and even if he chose to believe Connors, the move to meet the dead souls was no joke. "Fortunately, it worked, otherwise it would have been really scary. Connors helped me again."
"Catwoman" asked curiously from the side, "Has Connors helped you many times?"
The "Deadman" was stunned for a moment, then reacted that Catwoman was asking him, so he replied, "No, but he helped the Justice League deal with the Monster Thompson and indirectly saved the world's lives. Counting this time, I owe him two lives."
Batman urged, "Now is not the time to talk about these. In my opinion, they will recover soon. We have to get out of here quickly. Phantom Stranger, you better find the door out of here."
Phantom Stranger corrected him. "It's not a door, it's more of a moving realm, closer to a state of consciousness than an actual location."
"If you don't do this, someone's life will hang by a thread. I don't want an explanation, I just want the result."
The Phantom Stranger remained silent.
Connors's eyes left on "Catwoman" clearly looked at the Phantom Stranger's expression, and he knew how painful this guy, who looked like a mysterious wanderer, was at this time. The gruesome appearances, being grabbed by Wonder Woman and Batman's collars and lifted in the air were nothing compared to the things he carried.
In order to find his murdered wife and children, Phantom Stranger had searched Heaven and Earth for thousands of years, and had visited almost every corner of the world and legend. And after finding them, he lost them again. Not only that, the Phantom Stranger was also warned by the angel of Heaven, "Never go to Heaven again, otherwise you will be completely erased from time and history."
But even so, Phantom Stranger took Batman and those superheroes without hesitation, through the basement of Heaven, through the Cave of Desire and the Tunnel of Grief, and arrived at "Heaven."
"This is Heaven? Isn't this just an ordinary residential area? There's even a bike!" the "Deadman" shouted, questioning the so-called "Heaven" scene in front of him. He did not question whether the Phantom Stranger had taken the wrong path, but whether "Heaven" itself existed as such.
"Residential areas, countries, worlds, and universes theoretically have as many Heavens as there are souls, each one tailor-made," the Phantom Stranger continued to incarnate as a guide, taking the trouble to explain to the superheroes. He knew that his trip to Heaven meant he would never come back, and he told the heroes everything he knew as much as possible.
"But why is this place so down-to-earth, in Connors's words?" Batman asked.
"Maybe this is Heaven for some people. After all, 'Heaven' is just a relative concept," Phantom Stranger explained. He was followed by Batman, Katana, Deadman, and Catwoman.
"Catwoman" had never heard of these high-concept ideas. She was more concerned about how the fruits sold in "Heaven" tasted, and asked casually, "Is Dr. Light here?"
The Phantom Stranger replied without looking back, "No, I would have noticed if he was here, which means we have to find his exclusive paradise, one tailor-made for him."
There was no sound behind him, and the Phantom Stranger turned around hastily, but there was no one there.
"Batman? Catwoman? Katana? Deadman?"
The Phantom Stranger's face showed a look of confusion and panic. The streets of Paradise were bustling with taxis, dog walkers, and skateboarders, but no superheroes.
"I made a mistake, a terrible mistake."
"In a world where thinking creates matter, an individual's heart will instantly shape his own paradise."
"I should have thought about this."
The Phantom Stranger trembled and took off his gentleman's hat, sighing deeply. Because of one of his oversights, the journey would be infinitely longer. Elongated to the point where Superman might die and the heroes sink into the paradise they created, while the magic box was obtained by Wonder Woman.
But with this sigh, the Phantom Stranger discovered that where Catwoman had just stood, there was a small Scarecrow on the ground. That was the Grass Decoy Connors had left on "Catwoman" in advance.
The Phantom Stranger looked at the Scarecrow doubtfully, bending down to reach out and pick it up, but the Scarecrow grew and grew rapidly, becoming Connors wearing a trench coat and a black smoke cloak.
"How about I help you find those heroes and you help me hide this scarecrow into Batman's exclusive paradise?" Connors talked to the Phantom Stranger through the construct.
This was part of his deal with Earth-3's "Owlman," Thomas Jr. Wayne.
