Chapter 55 - Chapter 54: Attracted

Chapter 54: Attracted

On the eighteenth floor of Broad Valley Building, the relentless downpour pounded the glass windows, intensifying the oppressive and frenzied atmosphere inside.

Six staff members, six phones—each had to complete the identification.

By this point, the moment the true mission appeared, everyone understood the truth:

The ghost was inside the staff members' phones.

Moreover, it had split itself into six parts, each hidden within one staff member's device.

These six fragments of the ghost had simultaneously altered the mission, changing the intended course.

This was deliberately designed and sanctioned by the hotel; otherwise, the ghost could never have exerted its supernatural power inside.

The best method of identification, naturally, was: 'The ghost is in my hotel phone.'

But Fang Shenyan's sudden attack forced Yu Guo to identify the ghost inside him first.

After completing the identification, a message flashed in Yu Guo's mind:

'Branch Seven employee Yu Guo has completed identification. Leave Broad Valley Building within one minute, or face immediate annihilation!'

At the same time, the ghost embedded in his hotel phone also arrived.

Before Yu Guo could even process the message, he lost all thought and control. His hands uncontrollably climbed toward his head.

Even at the moment of full revelation, the ghost did not relent.

Yu Guo's vitality was rapidly being drained, yet Fang Shenyan, having just regained consciousness, reacted quickly.

"The ghost is in Yu Guo's body!"

Mutual identification was also an effective method—sometimes the only way to save someone being killed by possession.

At Yu Guo's declaration, another fragment of the ghost was successfully handed over to the hotel.

Fang Shenyan's task was now complete. Seeing Yu Guo nearly collapse from weakness, he immediately supported him.

At that moment, a text from the hotel echoed in his mind, identical to what Yu Guo had received, ordering him to leave Broad Valley Building within one minute.

Fang Shenyan, holding Yu Guo, hesitated briefly—he couldn't understand why the hotel added this strange rule after task completion.

Time, however, was running out.

Without another thought, he helped Yu Guo turn and rushed toward the stairwell.

He glanced back at Tongguan and Chang Nian, still standing safely.

Now that the escape path had appeared, they only needed to say one sentence to complete the mission.

There was no reason to waste more time; leaving the eighteenth floor within a minute was no easy feat.

Tongguan and Chang Nian, fully prepared, observed Fang and Yu Guo's actions with confidence.

Tongguan took a deep breath, lightly clasped Chang Nian's hand, and smiled faintly.

Chang Nian looked at him and then said, "The ghost is in my hotel phone."

"The ghost is in my—"

Tongguan's words froze halfway. He noticed Chang Nian's expression seemed unusual.

Sensing something had gone wrong, he quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

Furrowing her brows, Chang Nian turned slightly to Tongguan and said deliberately:

"There's no ghost in me!"

Tongguan's face changed. He was about to speak, then pressed his lips together and remained silent.

He had long sensed something odd: Chang Nian's hotel phone showed the real mission when opening the email, while his phone had gradually transitioned from the false task.

It seemed that the ghost in Chang Nian's phone had departed after the last email check.

Tongguan had no way of knowing where the ghost that should have belonged to Chang Nian had gone, but he looked at the corpses in the storage room, clearly moved by someone.

"The vanished part of the ghost, three corpses, the missing Ji Li…"

Tongguan took a deep breath. He could roughly deduce the problem:

The ghost in Chang Nian's phone was connected to these three corpses and had been taken away, then Ji Li's arrival drew that portion of the ghost away.

In other words, if Ji Li were still alive, he should have had two fragments of the ghost within him.

"I'll go find Li Xing!"

At that moment, Chang Nian swung her ponytail and turned, leaving this statement behind.

But Tongguan grabbed her arm, pulling her close.

"You can't go!"

Chang Nian's eyes flared. She forcefully broke free from his hold.

"Li Xing blocked us on the fourth floor because the ghost inside him knew there was no ghost near me and wanted to lure me over to kill me."

"It doesn't matter whether there's a ghost in me or not. As long as we find Li Xing, that's enough."

Tongguan said nothing, merely nodded. Chang Nian's guess was correct.

This explained why they had expected Li Xing to chase them but he hadn't appeared yet—because he knew they still lacked one ghost identification.

Chang Nian held her breath for a moment, then looked at him gently and said:

"I know you want me to make the ghost in your phone leave, but sorry, I can't do it."

With that, her stance shifted. In a swift motion, she pressed Tongguan's elbow behind him and kicked his leg joint, subduing the tall man almost instantly.

"Don't forget, I'm a karate master. You can't stop me!"

Tongguan knelt halfway, twisted backward, a smile tugging at the corners of his eyes despite her actions.

Out of the corner of her eye, Chang Nian saw Xiao Qi, who had stopped crying and now looked dazed. She sighed quietly and, without turning her head, sprinted toward the stairwell below.

But after only a few steps, her pace suddenly halted.

She had heard the sound of twisting bones.

Chang Nian turned sharply and saw Tongguan's handsome face still wearing a faint smile—but both his hands were climbing toward his own head.

Her momentum faltered. She wanted to stop him, but Tongguan's arms had already stiffened.

Tongguan had remained silent the entire time, but from the moment Chang Nian struck, he had a plan: like before, draw the ghost into himself and force Chang Nian to complete the task first.

Seeing Tongguan's face twist, her expression darkened to the extreme. She cursed angrily:

"Damn it, Tongguan! You planned this all along!"

"The ghost is in Tongguan!"

The instant she said it, Tongguan's nearly broken neck stopped twisting. The stiffness vanished entirely.

He blinked at the furious Chang Nian, rubbed his neck, and chuckled lightly:

"You're ruthless—you had to let my neck reach its limit before speaking."

Before he could finish, Chang Nian sprinted forward and slapped him with all her strength.

Then she leaned down and kissed his forehead, softly saying:

"I know you have a way. I'll wait for you downstairs."

Tongguan's gaze shifted from warmth to resolute determination. He watched Chang Nian's departing figure, then slowly looked at the little girl stepping out of the warehouse.

In the building now, only these two lives remained vulnerable to the ghost.

Tongguan met her gaze, and she met his.

A quiet whisper echoed across the eighteenth floor, among the corpses.
