The leader of the robbers charged at Peter, swinging the metal pipe with all his strength.
"You're dead, kid!"
Peter's danger sense flared.
Time seemed to slow down.
Without even thinking, Peter tilted his head to the side.
WHOOSH!
The metal pipe sliced through the air, missing Peter's face by barely an inch.
"Huh?" the robber gasped.
Peter himself was just as shocked.
"I... dodged it?"
The second robber rushed in with a punch.
Peter instinctively caught his fist.
The robber tried to pull away.
He couldn't.
Peter realized he was squeezing far too hard.
"Ow! My hand!" the robber screamed.
Peter quickly let go.
"S-Sorry... I didn't mean to..."
The robber looked at his swollen hand in horror.
"What kind of monster is this kid?"
The leader growled in anger.
"All three of us! Attack together!"
The robbers surrounded Peter.
One attacked from the left.
Another from behind.
The leader came straight at him.
Peter's danger sense warned him of every attack.
He ducked.
He jumped.
He spun around.
Every punch and kick missed him by centimeters.
"This is unbelievable," Peter thought.
"It feels like my body moves on its own."
The third robber picked up a wooden chair and threw it.
CRASH!
The chair shattered against the wall as Peter effortlessly leaped over it.
He landed upside down on the wall.
The three robbers froze.
"He... he's standing on the wall!"
"What kind of freak is he?"
Peter smiled nervously.
"I was wondering the same thing."
The leader, now terrified, pulled out a small knife.
"You asked for this!"
He lunged forward.
Peter fired his hand instinctively.
FWIP!
A thick white web shot out of his wrist.
The web wrapped around the robber's arm, causing the knife to fly out of his hand.
Peter's eyes widened.
"I actually did it!"
The robber tugged at the web.
It wouldn't break.
"What is this sticky stuff?!"
Peter gave the web a light pull.
The robber flew through the air and crashed into a pile of cardboard boxes.
The other two robbers immediately turned to run.
"Oh no, you don't."
FWIP! FWIP!
Two more webs shot out.
They stuck to the robbers' backs.
Peter gently pulled.
Both men lost their balance and landed face-first on the floor.
Within seconds, all three robbers were tied together in a giant cocoon of web.
The elderly shopkeeper stared in complete disbelief.
"You... you saved me."
Peter scratched the back of his head.
"I guess I did."
The old man smiled warmly.
"Thank you, son. If you hadn't come..."
Peter nodded.
"I'm just glad you're safe."
Suddenly, police sirens echoed through the streets.
"They're here!"
Peter looked around.
"I can't let anyone see me."
He fired a web toward the warehouse ceiling.
FWIP!
The web stuck instantly.
Peter grabbed it tightly.
"I hope this works..."
He jumped.
The web stretched before pulling him high into the air.
"WHOOOAA!"
He swung out of the warehouse through a broken window, barely avoiding a brick wall.
"This is AWESOME!"
He laughed as he soared above the rooftops.
For the first time since gaining his powers, Peter felt truly free.
But several buildings away, someone had been watching the entire fight through a pair of binoculars.
The mysterious man lowered them slowly.
"So... Subject P survived the mutation."
He pressed a button on a small communicator.
"This is Agent Raven."
"The hybrid specimen is alive."
"He has begun using his abilities."
A cold voice answered from the other side.
"Excellent."
"Do not engage him yet."
"Simply observe."
"We'll retrieve our experiment... when the time is right."
Far above the city, Peter continued swinging between buildings, unaware that he was no longer the hunter...
He had become the hunted.
