Chapter 29 - Fighting Against the Thing

Slash

The thing moved at an incredible speed for its size, in just an instant it reached Kakashi's earth wall, raised its enormous hand, and swung the giant kitchen axe downwards.

Clash

Break

The small earth wall was shattered in an instant, the axe struck the ground hard, sinking halfway through its blade, breaking the concrete and the huge rocks beneath the soil.

"Amazing, that level of strength..." Guy, still standing atop the wall surrounding Devan's residence, smiled slightly and licked his lips as if eager to fight.

A moment later, the clone emerged from the ground with a lightning-wrapped kunai aimed at the thing's throat.

But the thing seemed to have already anticipated this, it smiled brightly showing its yellow teeth, "Break and Tear..." it murmured softly in its usual combination of voices before swinging its smaller arm with a hook.

The thing moved at twice the speed from a moment ago, its small hand holding a hook swung fiercely, the tip of that hook aimed at Kakashi's head.

The hook pierced Kakashi's head without any problem, the thing was about to smile and grab its enemy's body with its large hand, but no blood came out of Kakashi's head; on the contrary, he began to shine with a blue light.

"Eh?" The thing wanted to say something when Kakashi shone more intensely before turning into a powerful electric discharge that wrapped around the entire thing.

The sound of continuous lightning echoed as the thing let out a sharp scream.

"Is that its level? A bit above a jounin..." Guy jumped off the wall and charged forward quickly, his feet moving at high speed as he approached the thing.

Might Guy unleashed a barrage of continuous punches and kicks, dodging the occasional attacks from the thing still suffering from Kakashi's lightning clone.

Not far away, Kakashi smiled at the sight, it seemed that thing looked scarier than it actually was, he was about to relax when he saw something strange.

The thing began to grow larger, at first gradually and slowly, but as Guy's attacks intensified, the thing grew more violently. "No, Guy!!!" Kakashi narrowed his eyes and called out urgently to his friend.

Guy turned halfway, glanced slightly back without losing focus, he also felt something strange about the thing, "Why does it look like a balloon inflating?" Guy wondered unconsciously, forcing himself to stop and quickly retreat back to where Kakashi was.

"Kakashi, it's... strange," Might Guy looked at the thing that kept inflating like a balloon, he scratched his nonexistent beard as if thinking, "It looks like it's going to explode or something, Would that be dangerous?" Guy asked.

However, Kakashi shook his head.

"That seems to be the case, amm, Dangerous? For us no, for the people here, probably yes..." Kakashi lowered his gaze, his face turning somber.

However, at that very moment, a white hand emerged from the garden inside the property, that hand came out so suddenly that not even Kakashi and Might Guy saw it.

Then another white hand emerged, the two hands pressed against the ground to lift the upper part of a body out, and it was just then that Kakashi and Guy turned their heads toward the garden.

"Punisher of the Apocalypse, stop..." the person who came out of the garden, with hair full of dirt, a face stained with grime, and damp clothes, said softly.

As if it had heard a divine command, the thing that was inflating —rather, the Punisher of the Apocalypse— began to return to its normal size.

Kakashi's face showed surprise, his two visible eyes slightly dilated, cold sweat ran down his face as he looked at the person emerging from the earth.

"Devan, is that you?" he asked quietly, the image of Devan in his mind was a sharp contrast to the man who had been buried in the garden.

But yes, overall, he was Devan, there was no doubt for Kakashi, "Long black hair, pale skin, calm and even bored expression, Devan, but why did he come out of the...?" Kakashi wondered in his mind when Devan tilted his head slightly to look at him.

"Hmm, Kakashi, Guy, it's been a while..." the Necromancer smiled slightly, patted his head and face to clean himself a bit before fully stepping out of the garden soil.

"You're Devan..." Guy narrowed his eyes as he murmured, swallowing with anticipation, looking at the man with genuine interest. He was confused —the Devan he saw, although similar to the one in his memories, had a strange aura around him.

"It's a pleasure to see you guys here, but it's a pity you had to see me like this, I'm not in the best condition right now..." Devan admitted, lowering his head slightly. The Punisher of the Apocalypse stayed in place, in fact, it sat on the ground and closed its eyes, waiting for Devan's orders.

Kakashi glanced sideways at the Punisher and then at Devan a few times before speaking, "Is that thing one of Orochimaru's experiments? Have you allied with Orochimaru? Will you betray Konoha? Where is Anko Mitarashi?"

Devan's sudden questions made him force a smile.

The Necromancer himself had a melancholic air, he looked at the Punisher for a moment before laughing, though his laughter was filled with sadness.

"No, Punisher isn't one of Orochimaru's experiments," Devan sat down on the ground to brush the dirt off his hair, "Ally with Orochimaru? Even if I wanted to, I can't. He's dead —or rather, he's in hell."

Devan swallowed, licked his lips with anticipation, and glanced sideways at Kakashi, "I don't think I could betray Konoha; I don't have anyone to do it with," he admitted honestly.

"Anko Mitarashi, well..." Devan made a strange sound with his mouth, one of his hands reached into one of his pants pockets, from which he pulled out five gold coins that said Fractured Mind, and he showed them to the two ninjas.

Kakashi observed those five gold coins carefully, a sudden understanding appearing in his mind as he looked at the coins, the Punisher, and Devan. "Anko died, but," Kakashi thought, "But how?" The ninja looked into the eyes of his old friend Devan, however, Devan didn't have the eyes of a killer; no, he even had that melancholic air about him.

"Probably Orochimaru kill her, but he's dead? Not even Lord Hokage could kill him..." Kakashi thought quickly before speaking, "Was it Orochimaru who killed Anko?" he asked the question he wanted answered.

Devan shook his head at Kakashi's assumption, "She went insane. Do you remember what happened with Kurenai Yuhi?" Devan suggested.

Both Might Guy and Kakashi suddenly widened their eyes, completely shocked by Devan's words. After all, How could Anko Mitarashi —a cold, composed woman— take her own life over love?
