Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: Want to Try This?

Brother Dog's face showed fear as he thought of Su Huan's mysterious methods. He whispered, "Keep your voices down. That Su guy is an Evolver, elusive as a ghost."

Old Hu heard this and looked amused. An Evolver?

Aren't we all?

But even Evolvers are afraid of the truth.

Old Hu instinctively felt the cold object tucked in his waistband and thought of the man who could control flames.

Those flames were truly wicked, roasting three of them, but he shot them and ended it.

Now their bodies have been eaten down to skeletons by zombies.

This is why he dared to come and take the train, even knowing the other side was an Evolver.

The drizzle of the early morning rain, mixed with the steamy moisture, wrapped around them, as shadows moved cautiously through the mud.

Finally, they got closer.

The security guard with the upturned eyes had his uniform soaked through, clinging to his back. He wiped his face and looked at the steel train with eagerness in his eyes.

"It's this carriage!" Brother Dog pointed to Carriage No. 3, his voice low, as the mechanical lock glinted in the rain.

"Don't make a mistake."

"We've observed for a long time. That Su guy is living in this one. Once he's taken care of, we can handle the remaining women and the cripple at our leisure!"

The guard with upturned eyes mocked Brother Dog in his mind for being so unambitious; women were the least of worries in the apocalypse.

Initially, they even traded food for them.

Lately, they simply took what they liked without a trade.

"Once we get this train, the women are all yours, Lao San!"

Lao San, who was picking the lock, stepped into a puddle, making a splashing noise and was glared at by the guard.

Lao San shivered as he took out his toolkit, biting his flashlight, the beam sweeping over the lock hole, feeling relieved.

"It's an old-fashioned mechanical lock. If it were electronic, I'd be stuck."

The guard with upturned eyes twitched his nose in excitement, a malicious gleam in his eye, "Then hurry up, once we're inside, we'll have a good meal."

The group gathered excitedly next to the train, those near the windows crouched down.

They eagerly watched Lao San's small toolkit in his hands.

Lao San kept silent, his head down, tinkering away.

The faint sounds were like a little mouse.

Thirty seconds passed, the guard with the upturned eyes remained excited.

A minute passed, his expression began to tighten.

Three minutes passed, his face became tense.

Five minutes passed, his mood turned grim.

Ten minutes passed, his facial muscles twitched.

"It's not like this door was left for you by that Wang Family's wife."

Brother Dog taunted lightly.

"By logic, it should be open by now. This kind of lock, that's how it is..." Lao San's hands trembled, twisting with effort, but the door remained unmoved.

"Useless!" Boss Hu grabbed Lao San by the collar, his face shadowed by the flashlight in Lao San's hand, "Didn't you say there's no lock you can't open?"

"G-give me ten minutes..." Lao San's forehead cold sweat mixed with rainwater dripped down, the screwdriver made a screeching sound against the lock hole.

The distant sound of dragging footsteps of zombies, mixed with the low growls of the horde in the rain, made everyone grip their machetes tighter.

"Hurry up!" Boss Hu cursed under his breath.

Another five minutes passed, suddenly the lock emitted a crisp creak.

They looked, only to see the screwdriver in Lao San's hand had snapped inside.

The guard with upturned eyes showed no pleasant expression, his face gloomy as if water could drip off, "Lao San, you've been with me for a year, right?"

Lao San's face looked even worse than crying, "Boss Hu, give me one more chance..."

"Don't worry, why not try this?"

Someone beside him offered a pair of needle-nose pliers, Lao San was overjoyed, reaching out to take it, "This will work, this will work."

His hand stopped midway, freezing suddenly, with a look like he had seen a ghost.

He saw a figure obscured in darkness standing inside the train window, handing a pair of needle-nose pliers out through the safety wire.

Out of nowhere, raindrops hit the window frame, scattering raindrops reflected off a young face with a gentle smile.

The guard with upturned eyes was also alarmed, he hadn't expected the target of their plot to be right beside them all along.

Ignoring the cold sweat running into his eyes, he instinctively reached for the gun at his waist.

"Don't need it?"

The smile on Su Huan's face faded, releasing his fingers from the pliers.

The pliers hit the ground with a splash.

Steel, rainy night, this was his territory after all.

Su Huan mused inwardly as a high-voltage current surged into the train from under his feet.

Cobalt blue electric arcs, like long blades, guided by the rain in the air, transformed into countless blue threads, suddenly striking the people outside the train.

The guard with upturned eyes felt his hair stand on end as if stabbed by a blade, his muscles tensed with pain.

Grabbing his gun halfway, he started convulsing.

His hand pressed on his waist, his eyes rolled back.

"Bang, bang..."

A series of heavy thuds hit the ground.

After a moment, the guard with upturned eyes recovered, his muscles no longer in spasm, struggling to rise and beg.

"Splat—"

Another arc flashed, with a crackling sound.

Now the guard with upturned eyes lay honestly in the mud, no longer struggling.

"It would have been better to buy a ticket honestly instead of taking the crooked path."

Su Huan mumbled, a wave of undefined energy spreading from under his feet, just touching the guard's body on the ground.

"Level 1 General Awareness"

...

Inside the 6th storage carriage, the night light provided steady illumination.

Gao Zhe stood in the carriage bridge, his remaining right hand holding a piece of rebar, frowning at the metal door in front of him like a porcupine.

The tips of the spikes were stained crimson.

Through the gap in the metal, a boy wearing a black shirt could be seen sitting upright in a wheelchair, eyes serious under his tousled hair.

If both his hands were intact, he was confident he could break through the door and deliver a fatal strike.

After all, the boy couldn't move easily.

But missing one hand, forcing a breach would also mean one for one.

"Su said you're very dangerous." Qi Xiaobai stared at Gao Zhe and spoke.

Gao Zhe observed his opponent's condition, retorting without hesitation, "You are much more dangerous than I am."

The clear sound of footsteps came from the other side of the door, seeing Su Huan approaching leisurely, Gao Zhe knew the chance was gone.

He sighed inwardly, expecting Brother Dog might screw up, but not so quickly.

From start to finish, he only clashed with Qi Xiaobai briefly.

"Mr. Gao, staying up so late, is there something you need? The train does offer a midnight snack service, you know."

Su Huan's face wore its habitual fake smile, his eyes cold underneath.

Gao Zhe turned to leave, without uttering a single harsh word.

Even one was uncertain he could handle, let alone two together, still in the cramped carriage, he truly had no chance.

Taking action would be like Night Demon, forced to death.

Unless... Su Huan left the train.

"Wait a minute, I have a small task here, would Mr. Gao be interested?"
