"Oh my god—aren't those Gym Leader Grey and Elite Four Bruno?!"
Someone shouted it out of nowhere.
Everyone turned, and sure enough, Grey and Bruno were already standing on opposite sides of the battle field.
On Grey's side, he adjusted his streaming setup.
Opportunities to battle a member of the Kanto Elite Four didn't come often.
Now that he'd run into this chance, who knew when the next time he'd get to fight an Elite Four member would be?
So he set up today's tags as well.
Title: [Battling Kanto Elite Four Bruno]
Tags: [Elite Four] [Fighting] [Kanto Region] [Gym Leader]
[What's going on? My friend said they saw the streamer and Elite Four Bruno in Celadon City—are they really battling?]
[Front row, front row! No idea what Pokemon Gym Leader Grey and Elite Four Bruno will use.]
[Hard to say. Is the streamer using his main team? (Sent an Ultra Ball)]
"Thanks to 'Only Loves Grey' for the Ultra Ball. Today I'm not using my main team—this is just a friendly spar with Elite Four Bruno, so neither of us is using our main lineup."
Grey answered the comment right away.
[Got it. Streamer, good luck—try to beat Elite Four Bruno!]
The area outside the battle field was packed tight with spectators.
Seeing all those Trainers show up, Grey stretched his body a little.
It was his first time playing a real match against an Elite Four–level Trainer. Even if he wasn't using his main Pokemon, it still made him a little nervous.
But more than anything, it ignited a sharp, cold fighting spirit.
Aura flared—blue radiance wrapped his entire body.
His clothes fluttered for an instant, then settled again.
A battle could change in a heartbeat. Getting the advantage in presence and momentum from the start made the opening much easier.
"Hahaha, Gym Leader Grey! I can feel that intense fighting spirit bursting inside you! That's how Fighting Trainers should be!"
Seeing Grey like this, Bruno couldn't help clapping in praise.
It had been a long time since he'd met a Trainer who fit his taste so perfectly!
Even Red and Blue had never shocked him the way Grey did!
A natural-born Fighting talent!
"One match to decide it, Bruno!"
"Exactly what I want!"
There was no referee. After confirming the rules, both sides threw their Pokeballs at the same time.
"Timburr, it's your turn!"
"Machop, show them some spirit!"
On the field, the two Fighting-type Pokemon faced each other.
Bruno's Machop was a bluish-green color.
Compared to its final evolution, Machamp, it actually looked more "normal."
Of course, Bruno had no idea what Machop's final evolution would look like.
Pokemon: Machop (Shiny)
Type: Fighting
Level: 23
Ability: No Guard
Moves: omitted.
A Machop at nearly the same level as Timburr.
If Grey hadn't been raising Timburr for him, Grey figured Bruno would've wanted the two to trade-evolve together.
Now, Grey thought through his options.
Machop's Ability was No Guard—meaning moves from both sides would always hit.
Of course, if a move like Detect or Protect was used, No Guard wouldn't override that.
[What the hell—why are both of them different colors? Are these both shiny Pokemon?!]
[Two Fighting guys flexing their shinies—wrapped a whole feast just to serve one tiny dish!]
[This is a scam. They lured us in just to murder us with envy!]
Seeing two shinies at once—both this flashy—people got furious at Grey and Bruno for "showing off."
But the truth was, neither of them meant to.
It was just coincidence that they both had shiny Pokemon.
They weren't trying to flaunt anything.
Right then, the two Trainers locked eyes.
After silently counting down three seconds—
they shouted their commands almost simultaneously.
"Timburr—Mach Punch!"
"Machop—Bullet Punch!"
It was like Fighting Trainers shared one brain.
Both Grey and Bruno opened with priority moves.
Timburr moved first.
With its lumber on its shoulder, it stomped the ground. Brownish fighting energy erupted around it, and its speed spiked to the limit as it rushed Machop—who had only just started moving.
Machop's fists, meanwhile, flashed with metallic light. Feeling that pressure surge toward it, Machop's mouth curled upward, and it bent its knees slightly.
Then—
Bang-bang-bang!!!
Their fists crossed in a blur. Timburr's Mach Punch landed first, but Machop tanked it head-on—then unleashed a storm of bullet-fast strikes, hammering Timburr relentlessly.
After the exchange, Timburr staggered back several steps, fresh injuries visible across its body.
But Machop wasn't doing great either.
Its abdomen had taken damage. Only after it finished Bullet Punch did the pain catch up, and its expression tightened.
Neither side gained any real advantage.
Grey raised an eyebrow. He desperately wanted to shout, "Dodge!"—but considering Machop's Ability, he forced himself to swallow it.
"Gym Leader Grey, that's good strength. But my Machop's strength is greater."
Bruno flexed his muscles, and Machop followed suit like it was posing for a bodybuilding contest.
A red aura surged out, boosting Machop's Attack and Defense.
"Bulk Up!"
"Thunder Punch!"
Taking advantage of Machop using Bulk Up, Grey immediately ordered Timburr to launch a surprise strike.
Still shouldering the lumber, Timburr freed one hand. Lightning crawled over its fist, then it threw a punch with a thunderous crack that shook the air.
Machop's eyes flashed gold—electric arcs surged through the air into its body.
Its legs refused to lift.
All it could do was watch Timburr's electrified fist come crashing in!
Bzzzt—BAM!!!
Electric light exploded. Machop stumbled backward again and again, its face scorched dark as small arcs snapped off its body.
Unfortunately, it didn't get paralyzed.
Grey sighed inwardly.
Letting Machop successfully use Bulk Up meant its Attack and Defense were now higher than Timburr's.
But—
Not a big deal!
Riding the momentum, Grey refused to give Machop any room to counterattack.
"Timburr—Brick Break!"
Timburr lifted the lumber high, coating it in fighting energy, and swung it down like an axe!
"Mega Punch!"
Bruno wasn't about to let Grey have it that easy.
His Machop had No Guard.
Clashing moves?
Like he was scared of that.
"Machop!"
Brilliant white light burst from Machop's palm. Its power surged higher and higher—inside that seemingly ordinary punch was force even greater than the Bullet Punch from earlier!
Timburr strained hard, the thick wooden beam ripping through the air with a howling shockwave!
Wind slammed into Machop's face, but it didn't even blink. It answered with the simplest possible straight punch.
The instant the two forces collided, a visible ring of energy rippled outward like a shockwave!
Boom!
After the dull impact, Timburr staggered back half a step, both hands trembling around the beam.
Machop, in contrast, didn't move an inch—its feet planted like roots. White mist steamed off its knuckles, marking the leftover power of that strike.
In a contest of raw strength, the result was obvious.
"Worthy of Elite Four Bruno's Machop."
From that brief clash, Grey judged Machop's real combat strength.
"But next… how are you going to deal with this?"
