Chapter 86: That's Not A Treasure!
The moment those serpent-like roots—or whatever they were—latched onto the corpses, they tightened with a dry, fibrous creak, squeezing until the brittle bones inside the corpses gave way with a sickening crunch.
Then, without warning, the corpses began to wither at a terrifying speed.
Flesh shrivelled as if time itself had been sped up tenfold, their decomposition accelerated. Some of the roots didn't stop at the dead—they even lashed out at the living beasts, coiling around them and crushing the life out of them until the last twitch left their bodies. The same rapid decay overtook those fresh corpses moments later as well.
Larger monsters—like the Thunderhide Elk—fought back. They thrashed and stomped violently, their raw strength forcing the roots to recoil into the earth like frightened snakes.
One particularly rogue root even shot straight toward Leo and his beasts.
But it didn't make it far.
