Chapter 13 - Éxtasis

Just finishing reading the report, Grimmoire heard footsteps approaching…

—Grimm, darling, come on, I'm done —said a woman in her forties.

—I'm coming.

—"Coming" my ass… Ah, never mind, hurry the hell up —the woman said, holding back a swear.

—Argh, I guess I'll have to read the second one when Susan falls asleep. What a shame, I was really getting hooked, haha.

Who would've thought that codename wouldn't be far from the truth.

That night at the Díaz family house, nothing unusual happened, everything was normal as always.

—Argh, had to wait a full twelve minutes, but she finally fell asleep —Grimm said, slowly getting up from the bed and heading to the living room.

In the living room, he turned on a lamp or two and grabbed yesterday's report. It was around 2 a.m., and from outside, a figure could be seen, intensely reading something.

Incident report: "Afternoon of Tears" 2/3:

Deaths: 42 (almost all young children), Ascensions: 2, Subject 2: Grettel Morningstar (keeping an eye on this Ascended might be coincidence, but she's very likely a descendant of the Seventh Revenant caste).

Affinity: Ego.

Bond: Her Bond is called Symphony of the Night. Around eight chains of an unknown metal extend from her back. She can control them at will, and they serve both offensive and defensive purposes.

Type: Vainglory. (A rare and peculiar type of Bond, making her very unusual compared to other Ascended.)

Note: Tomorrow's test aims to uncover all properties of this Bond and its full classification (the subject hasn't been very cooperative).

After reading this, Grimm wanted to finish the third report so he could sleep and not think about the headache that awaited him tomorrow, especially knowing that Vanguard would likely show up to supervise everything.

—"That little bastard Vanguard" —Grimm thought, annoyed.

Incident report: "Afternoon of Tears" 3/3:

Total deaths: 72 (2 teachers and 70 students).

Ascensions: 2 (one Saint and one Sinner).

Material damage: Around 132,000 Dola Dola.

Grimm paused to think: "Who the hell wrote 'dola dola'? It must have been Jack. He's the one who writes the reports. I'm gonna kill him tomorrow for being an idiot."

—"Jack the idiot, but assuming he didn't convert the expenses to Dolards, it should be 132,000 Pleiades (currency of the Aldebaran district)" —Grimm thought to himself.

Consequences: global exposure of Aura (including Chronomia, which is usually more isolated).

Note: This copy of the report is specific to Grimmsito…

—"And here he goes with his homosexualities again" —Grimm thought, ready to kill himself.

…Anyone reading this who isn't Grimmsito, go fuck yourself. And you, Grimm, suck my balls, hahahahahaha.

End of report.

Grimm could only hope tomorrow would come so he could kill Jack while also bracing for everything that would happen. But his eyes fell on a corner of the page, and there it was: the little gift Jack left him.

—"That son of a bitch drew me a penis" —Grimm screamed in fury.

A terrible mistake, because Susan woke up. Let's all pray for poor Grimm 😔.

The next day, an announcement was made: in about two weeks, the official statement would be released. While they bought time with this announcement, the Eighth Department was testing the abilities of those who would become (whether they liked it or not) their new members.

The first was young Lancer. The first thing tested was his Virtue, and the result was as follows: His type was Humility, as expected. The destructive potential of his Virtue could even reach Divine General level, which surprised everyone present. If the calculation is correct, they might be witnessing the most offensive Virtue ever recorded. For now, it was only at Necro or even Zenith level.

As for what his Virtue does: it's simply an extremely destructive and versatile Pyrokinetic ability.

His newly Ascended body, with almost no training beyond human limits, was at a poor Basalt level thanks to Ascension.

Beyond that, young Lancer didn't have much more—but what he already possessed was monstrous. If trained enough, he could be considered an anomaly (assuming he survives, of course).

As for Grettel, her result was impressive.

Regarding her Bond, Symphony of the Night, it was discovered that those chains are practically indestructible. Its maximum range is 320 meters, giving it excessive reach. Its destructive potential is nowhere near Solaris's, but it is a very versatile Bond.

Note: Her Bond has a special effect at night. The later in the night it is, the stronger it becomes. A melody begins to play, described by staff as the most beautiful sound they've ever heard. This melody, besides being hypnotic, greatly enhances Grettel's capabilities.

Her physical condition is above young Lancer's for some strange reason, placing her at Necro level.

A young man in his twenties, wearing "street-style" clothes and a completely black mask with six holes resembling insect or animal eyes, attentively read the results while behind him, Grimmoire pursued Jack to kill him.
