Chapter 54 - Chapter 54

Gojo Household Evening,

After finishing dinner, Gojo Satoru collapsed onto the sofa, sprawled out like a lazy salted fish.

"Subaru, bring me a dessert from the fridge, please" he called out weakly, waving a hand as if he were too exhausted to move.

"Okay, wait a moment," Subaru Mitejima answered from the kitchen, still washing dishes.

Two minutes later, after putting the dishes into the disinfection cabinet and drying her hands, Subaru opened the refrigerator and pulled out a small dessert cake in its box.

As she set it neatly on the table.

"For you~."

The moment the cake touched the table, Gojo instantly revived from his lifeless state. Sitting up with renewed energy, he tore the box open, scooped up a spoonful of cream, and dug in with the enthusiasm of a starving man.

Watching her "man" act like an overgrown child, Subaru couldn't help but laugh softly.

"Satoru, I have to return to Kyoto tomorrow morning."

Gojo didn't pause his attack on the cake. He mumbled with his mouth full, "Something happened with Kyoto's impurity outbreak?"

Subaru nodded, her expression turning serious.

"Yes. It's a new type of filth. Since the other Twelve Guardians are stationed across the country, the one who's most available is me. So I'll have check it out."

Gojo finally stopped eating and looked at her.

"A new filth, huh?"

His eyes narrowed slightly, though the cream still smeared at the corner of his lips ruined the serious atmosphere.

"Remember, the protective amulet I gave you will alert me the second something happens. So don't push yourself recklessly."

The way he said it carried weight, but with cream decorating his face, the scene looked more comical than intimidating.

"Yes, yes," Subaru replied in a deliberately perfunctory tone, chuckling as she grabbed a tissue and wiped his messy face clean.

"Oi! Damn it, Subaru, don't treat me like some kid," Gojo grumbled, puffing his cheeks in mock irritation.

"Isn't that exactly what you are?"

"…You're done tonight," Gojo muttered darkly, narrowing his eyes.

"Ahhh~ I can't wait," Subaru replied with a sly smile.

....

Later That Night,

After proving his words true and leaving Subaru completely exhausted and fast asleep, Gojo lay on the bed playing with his phone.

Ping!

A LINE notification popped up. Curious, he opened it and saw the sender's name: Nakano Nino.

"It's so annoying, Gojo-kun. Me and my sisters are transferring schools, and the paperwork is such a pain."

Gojo raised an eyebrow.

"Transfer? What happened? Did someone bully you, or did you get caught up in a fight?" He typed back quickly.

Barely three seconds later, a reply arrived—Nino was clearly waiting with her phone in hand.

"Of course not! We're good kids. But Yotsuba failed two makeup exams, and she got expelled. Since the five of us can't be separated, we all have to transfer schools together."

Gojo chuckled. "That's so good. And if you continue to transfer school like this, I'd just marry you directly to keep you at one place."

On her bed, Nino's face turned crimson as she read his message. She hugged her blanket tighter.

Marry me?

"You can marry, but only me," she whispered quietly, her pride refusing to let the words appear on her screen.

Instead, her fingers flew across her phone.

"Gross! Gojo-kun, how can a boy talk about marriage like that?"

The moment she sent it, she regretted it. Maybe she sounded too harsh.

But before she could retract the message, his reply came in lightning speed.

"What do you mean gross? This is called destiny! In three years, I'll rise from the ashes like the Dragon King returning to the throne—'The three-year period has come! Please welcome the Dragon King's return!' Hahahaha!"

Nino burst into laughter, but quickly cover her mouth so her sisters wouldn't hear.

"This idiot… isn't that a short video meme from Huaxia?" she muttered, still giggling. She quickly typed back, teasing him.

"Then what about me? Am I supposed to be some greedy fiancée who only cares about money?"

Gojo replied instantly. "Of course not! You're my lost wife of three years. When I return as the God of War, I'll lead a hundred thousand soldiers, and every single one of them will bow to you. Your only job will be to look beautiful while I conquer the world."

Nino laughed so hard she rolled on her bed.

The sheer absurdity of Gojo's words clashed so strongly with his usual cool and untouchable image that it became impossible not to laugh.

But one word on the screen made her heart skip—wife.

She stared at it a little longer than she should have, cheeks still warm.

Another notifications pulled her back.

"I'm sleepy. Going to bed. Good night~."

Her lips curved downward slightly in disappointment, but then she glanced at the time—it was already half past twelve. With a sigh, she typed back:

"Good night, Gojo-kun~."

She hovered for a second, wanting to call him husband as a joke, but her pride wouldn't allow it.

...

The Next Morning,

Early morning sunlight streamed through the windows.

With Gojo being busy with helping Subaru pack her clothes into a suitcase.

After sometimes—

When Umaru Gojo shuffled out of her room, still rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"Brother? What are you doing?" Umaru asked curiously.

"Oh, helping subaru pack her things, she heading back to Kyoto. Something came up there," Gojo explained casually.

Umaru blinked.

Then realization hit, and excitement bubbled inside her chest.

'Kyoto? That means she won't be here… I can finally have him all to myself again!'

Trying to suppress her inner joy, she quickly put on her most pitiful act and pouted at Subaru, who was calmly sipping her coffee.

"Eh?, you're leaving already? You've only been here a couple days! Can't you stay longer?"

Her words sounded sad, but in her mind Umaru was practically screaming,

'YES! Go! Leave faster! Wuhu! It's just me and oni-san again, hehe!'

Subaru chuckled at Umaru's expression, warmth in her eyes.

"Oh? You sound so reluctant to let me go. Don't worry, once I finish things in Kyoto, I'll come back here often. That's alright, isn't it?"

She smiled, taking another sip of coffee.

Umaru's face froze. A big black question mark practically hovered above her head.

'Wait, what?! No! That wasn't what I meant!'

Still, forced to keep up her act, she strained a smile. "O-of course. You're always welcome here…"

But deep down she screamed,

'I already regret saying anything! Now my onii-san and I will never get our alone time back!'

Her shoulders slumped in silent defeat.

The morning was full of subtle emotions—Subaru preparing to leave for duty, Gojo still as carefree as ever, and Umaru battling her own selfishness. Yet, even in this strange little household, laughter and warmth lingered, making it feel like a true family despite the chaos.
