Chapter 84 - Chapter 84

Next day—

Inside his office at Sobu High School,

Gojo Satoru leaned lazily against the teacher's desk, a lollipop dangling from his lips. His blindfold glimmered faintly under the morning sun, and his fingers flicked through his phone screen with unbothered grace.

The name on his contact list blinked: Chitanda Eiru.

The morning had been suspiciously quiet. The class attendance list clearly showed one absence—Chitanda's—and there had been no message or request for leave. That alone was odd.

"Skipping school without notice, huh…" Gojo murmured, sucking lightly on the lollipop stick as he dialed her number.

The phone rang.

Toot… Toot…

Just when he thought of hanging up, the call was received and a weak, hoarse voice finally answered.

"...Hello, Gojo-sensei."

Gojo raised an eyebrow. "Chitanda-san? What's with that voice? You sound like you've been possessed by a tired ghost."

A small laugh came from the other end, followed by a cough. "Sorry, Gojo-sensei… I forgot to request leave. I haven't been feeling well."

"Forget the leave," Gojo said, twirling the lollipop in his mouth. "What's wrong with you?"

"That.…" She paused. "I don't know. Lately, I've been having these nightmares. Every night it's the same—something foggy chasing me. When I wake up, my head hurts terribly, and my eyes look like I've pulled a week of all-nighters."

Gojo stopped spinning the candy and leaned back, thoughtful.

On the other end, Chitanda continued softly.

"I didn't want to skip, but this morning the headache was unbearable. My parents has gone to called a priest from the shrine to help… but I must've fallen asleep again after that. I'm really sorry for not contacting you, Gojo-sensei."

For a moment, silence stretched between them.

Then Gojo spoke calmly, "Give me your home address."

"Eh?"

"I said," he repeated, "I'll come over. As your teacher, of course I will have to check on my lovely student."

"L-Lovely…?" Chitanda stammered, her voice suddenly smaller. "O-Okay, I'll send you the address."

Once she did, Gojo smirked and said, "Good. And don't sleep anymore. If you feel drowsy, set an alarm every few minutes. I'll be there soon."

After hanging up, he chewed the lollipop thoughtfully.

"This reeks of cursed energy… possibly a demon or void corruption."

Before he could leave, the door burst open.

"Gojo-kun~!"

A brown blur flew into his arms—Naruko Yokoshima, her face pressing against his chest.

"Ahhh, it's been days since I've seen you!" she said, pressing her cheek against his chest with a grin.

Gojo chuckled, ruffling her soft brown hair. "And why are you so late today, Yokoshima-sensei?"

She puffed her cheeks, her face slightly turning red as she nervously said.

"Ah, well… My father had started nagging me this morning about finding a boyfriend....again ... So, I kinda panicked and accidentally said I already had one."

"…Let me guess, your so-called 'boyfriend' is me?"

She whistled innocently, not looking at his face.

Gojo sighed, amused. "Next time, try not to use me as your imaginary boyfriend."

"But you're perfect for it, Gojo-kun~!"

Ignoring her teasing tone, he gently put her down. "Tell Shizuka-sensei I'll be out for the day. Something came up."

Naruko straightened and gave a mock salute. "Roger that, Gojo-kun!"

Gojo smirked, flicked her forehead lightly, and walked out.

Behind him, Naruko held her face, her cheeks flushed pink. "He touched my forehead… Hehehe… Gojo-kun touched me~!"

A casual action for Gojo, turn into a huge leap for Naruko's delusions.

....

Following the address Chitanda gave him,

Gojo soon arrived at an elegant, old-fashioned Japanese courtyard.

The air smelled faintly of incense and plum blossoms.

He knocked on the wooden gate.

Knock, knock.

Moments later, a middle-aged woman in a kimono opened it, bowing politely.

"Good afternoon. May I help you?"

"I'm Gojo Satoru, Chitanda Eiru's homeroom teacher. I came to visit after hearing she wasn't well."

As soon as she heard his introduction, Her face brightened. "Ah, you're the teacher the young miss mentioned. Please, come in." She said as she make space for him to enter.

Inside, the place radiated traditional beauty.

But Gojo noticed something off—there was no trace of cursed energy, no demonic residue.

It was strangely quiet. Too quiet.

"This way, please," the woman said, leading him through a few turns until they stopped before a room.

"Miss, your teacher is here," she called gently.

Soft footsteps echoed inside before the door slid open. And the person inside was revealed—

Gojo blinked. "Wow, Chitanda-san, you really have become a panda."

Her pale face, dark circles, and messy hair would have been concerning—if it weren't also oddly adorable.

"Don't tease me like that, Gojo-sensei…" she muttered, her voice still hoarse.

"Can I come in?"

"Please."

Once they got inside, the housekeeper quietly closed the door behind them.

A soft floral scent lingered in the air.

Gojo sniffed lightly and grinned.

"Hmm… quite fragrant. What perfume is that, Chitanda-san? I might buy one and spray it around my home."

Her cheeks instantly flushed. That's not perfume! she screamed internally. That's just… me!

She coughed awkwardly.

"Uh… I bought it in Akihabara, Gojo-sensei. Maybe you can find it there."

"Akihabara, huh? Sure, I'll take your word for it." Gojo's smirk made it clear he didn't believe a word.

He looked around. "So, where do I sit?"

Chitanda blinked and realized there were no chairs. After a short pause, she patted the side of her bed. "Here's fine, Gojo-sensei."

"Okay~," he said cheerfully, sitting down on the edge of the bed.

His blindfolded eyes turned toward her—

"Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked, her voice tiny, even with the blindfold she can feel his staring.

"Nothing," he said, leaning back casually. But behind that smile, his Six Eyes had already detected something sinister.

Dark energy coiled around her head like inky mist—an aura of void corruption, feeding on her life force and spirit.

"Have you been anywhere strange lately?" he asked quietly.

"Huh? Not really..." She thought for a moment. "Oh, wait. On my way home Friday, I bumped into a woman. She looked lost and kept muttering something I couldn't understand."

Gojo's grin faded slightly. "I see."

He didn't need more to guess—the woman was the source.

Something from the Void Realm.

Before he could question more, Chitanda's phone buzzed.

"Sorry, Gojo-sensei, it's my mom."

She said as she answered quickly. "Hello, Mom?"

"Eiru, come out to the living room. We couldn't find a priest, but we invited a powerful miko to help."

"A miko?" Eiru's brows furrowed. "Okay, I'll come."

She hung up and turned to Gojo. "Sensei, would you like to come with me? The miko my parents found just arrived."

"Sure, why not?" Gojo said with an amused smile. "Let's meet this miko.'"

As Eiru stepped toward the door, her vision suddenly blurred—and her body collapsed backward.

"Whoa—hey!" Gojo caught her just in time, holding her against his chest.

Her breathing was shallow, her skin pale as a snow.

"I'm sorry, Gojo-sensei… I don't know what happened…" she whispered weakly.

"It's fine."

He placed one hand gently on her back, channeling a faint Reversed Cursed Technique. Warm, glowing energy flowed from his palm, dissolving the black mist inside her.

Within seconds, her face regained color. She blinked rapidly, dazed. "Huh? I feel… awake. My headache's gone!"

Gojo leaned back, smiling faintly. "Good. Try to stay conscious, alright?"

Realizing how close they were, her face turned crimson. I was in his arms…

"L-Let's go, Gojo-sensei!" she said quickly, walking ahead to hide her embarrassment.
