Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Every man for Themselves

I woke up earlier than Clyde. I carefully get off of the bed and stand over it, looking at Clyde's carefree sleeping position. His shirt ridden up slightly to reveal his abs, his mouth wide open as he snores. At least I get to enjoy the quietness for a little while, I think to myself. I sit down on the floor next to the bed and open up the Info Nexus to look at the new enchants I gained.

"Wind Burst: blow a gust of wind from any part of your body. Using too much at once results in a short cooldown of 5 seconds."

"Stormwing Tempest: Activated by electrocuting Windborne. Your minds and bodies sync in movement, as well as granting enhanced speed and strength. The drawback to this ability is immense fatigue after usage"

Wind Burst seems like a pretty basic ability, but it may still have its uses. Stormwing Tempest seems like more of an emergency scenario like a last stand. I get up and stretch my arms and legs, but I stretched my legs too much and it now feels like my muscle caved in. Clyde wakes up shortly after, following me into the bathroom where we both brush our teeth in front of the mirror.

"Your hair looks like a mess." Clyde says while smirking.

"And your hair looks as elegant as ever." I say to him with an annoyed expression.

9 months later…

My training regime is now finished, and I have learned everything I can think of that can help me, ranging from something as simple as cooking all the way up to most forms of combat and martial arts. I've also been rapidly climbing the ranks of the Colosseum of Champions. I now place top 75, and get to fight in the main arena. I've made a generous amount of money from my fights and still have yet to lose, although I have come close to it. As for my own electric powers, I can now handle a considerable amount of voltage and can use it for a longer period of time. Wielding it comes as naturally as breathing to me, but long and drawn out fights of Main Enchants put me at a disadvantage. I'm finally mostly in shape now, and most of my muscles are defined to a good amount, but not so much to where it looks like I'm a body builder. It's somewhere in the middle.

I've tried out Stormwing Tempest once as practice and was bedridden for an entire day. I don't think I can use it unless it's a dire situation that forces my hand. The memories in my head have also become clearer. Before, they were hard to interpret and mostly just incoherent mumbling of voices, but I can now make out clear scenarios and situations the previous holders have been in. The ones I've been using most and come most naturally to me would be the Inventor and MMA champion. I've been more reliant on his experiences because of my fights, and they have proven to be useful. Before I've begun using his memories, I've been going off of pure wit and whatever came first, but I now can imitate how he moved in his life, though not perfectly.

I've also been focusing on the inventor much more because of the amount of money I've been receiving. During these nine months, I've been working on a little side project, and I hope to surprise Clyde with it. He doesn't know about it so far. The inventor has been very helpful for this task, as his memories of various different fields have helped me greatly. With enough work, I might be able to finish making one of his "10 Marvels". That's what he called it anyway, and is the current project I'm working on. I pack up the tools and screws and shove them in my closet. That's enough for today, I think to myself, wiping some sweat off my forehead. Mimicking the exact movements of the inventor while accessing the memory strains my mind, and I can only keep it up for an hour at a time. Luckily the MMA champion doesn't have this problem, as I only need glimpses of his moves because of how quickly and large they are.

I go downstairs and head outside, a backpack in hand and Windy tucked away in my hair. He wiggles around a bit and yawns before going back to bed. A familiar truck pulls up in front of my house, and begins rolling its window down.

"Hop in! We're about to be late to the match!" Clyde screams from the driver's seat.

"Coming! Give me a second!" I yell back, a small smile on my face as I begin putting on my normal pair of black shoes. As I begin heading towards the car, I suddenly find myself in a frozen wasteland. Ruins of buildings, some as tall as multiple stories, and some crumbled to the ground and covered by snow. Info Nexus appears in front of me.

"Free for all: 1500 Enchanteds have been transported to this place, you included. Only the top 100 leave this place. Any items found can be kept."

My eyes drift downward to see a line of words in dark red separated from the rest of the message.

"Good luck, Xyle."

I immediately begin running to a nearby building, the snow crunching beneath my feet as I sprint. I get in and view my surroundings, seeing moss and vines growing in the cracked and worn down walls. Thankfully, this place still has a roof. I open my bag and begin changing into my costume, shoving my previous clothes back in. I secure my mask and cloak, making sure they are on tightly before changing my shoes into the ones I use for battle. I walked out, scanning the area and confirming there was no one in the area. I didn't notice it before, but the light here is not that bright. The clouds appear to be blocking out the sun, only letting dulled rays through. It's cold as well, but I like the cold better than the heat, so it doesn't affect me all that much, and the costume has pretty decent insulation so I won't be freezing to death.

A hill to my left in the distance catches my attention. It isn't too tall, but it doesn't let me peer over it. I jog towards it and begin walking up. As my head comes over the hill, I see what I think to be a ruined town. Looking closer, I see people, all of them fighting each other with magic and supernatural powers. To the right of the town, I see another hill, not as big as the last one. It has a tall tower with a cone-shaped top. I begin making my way over to it, trying not to attract any attention, but it's kinda difficult when I'm wearing an all black outfit in a place filled with snow.

As I'm making my way to it, I see a man walk inside through the door. I arrive shortly after and slowly begin making my way up the tower. It's dimly lit, only the light from the room at the top is illuminating the entire tower. I reach the top and see a grown man, someone that seems to be around thirty years old, opening a large case. He sees me and immediately runs at me, screaming as he does so. He throws a lousy punch, if you can even call it that, and I dodge easily. He loses balance and falls straight down the spiral staircase I came up, landing with a loud thud. I look down, but can't see anything due to the dim light. I turned around and fully opened the case the man was opening.

Inside is a staff of dark, polished material, likely metal. Its entire length is accented by brilliantly gilded carvings of exceptional complexity. The ornamentation is most concentrated at both tips and a thick central band, featuring swirling, celestial patterns that suggest divine or royal origin. Then, Info Nexus pops up in front of me.

"This is a special weapon that has two forms. The first form: The Great Sage's Staff. The second form: Quicksilver"

The staff begins glowing faintly, shrinking to about half its size and shaping itself into a slim, straight blade. The hilt seems irregular, as it holds the sword from both the sides and the base of the blade instead of only the base as a regular one would. The color reveals itself to be dark grey, a contrast from the glistening blade. I turn the blade and view it better, nodding to myself in approval. I slash the air a few times before thinking about switching the blade back to a staff. As I think that thought, the sword changes back in nearly an instant. I thrust the staff forward in a lunging motion before holding it next to me in a standing position. I take another look in the case and find a sheath in the shape of a sword. I tie it to my waist and make my way back down the stairs, using the staff as a balance. At the bottom is the man from before, lying limp as a pool of blood spreads around his body. Poor guy, I think to myself.

I make my way outside, and am met with strong winds and colder temperatures from before. I see a vague blue glint in the distance as a projectile flies past me, hitting and piercing the door of the tower I just exited. I can't look back and examine what it was though, because if I do, I risk the next shot hitting me. From the distance, I see the outline of five people approaching me.

"That's not a very kind way to greet someone, is it?" The boy with the long hair asks, a grin on his face and his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.

"Doesn't matter, we need to get out of here, quickly" A girl holding a finely crafted bow, pointed straight at me with a magical blue aura as the arrow, replies. She's the one that tried to shoot me, I think to myself.

"Let's just get this over with, I wanna go home already," a boy with yellow hair wielding a pair of bright red gauntlets says from behind the boy with the sword.

"I'll finish this in one strike, just watch me," another boy with red hair says with a smug grin and a spear pointed at me.

A tall boy triumphantly appears behind all of them. His stature is big, covered in armor, and holding a massive shield.

"Then we shall end this swiftly! Fight with honor, as the Knights of The Round Table!"
