But of course to Kyle who had fallen head over heels for Serena, he would never know what truly is ugly deep inside of Serena's heart. Not that it was also Gallagher's place to utter anything, so all he did was watch from the sideline and offer Kyle a polite smile.
"Ever since the academy, yes," Gallagher confirmed, his tone easy, practiced. "I did attend your wedding."
Kyle blinked, clearly caught off guard. "You did?" A smile spread across his face, bright but fleeting. "Then you should have come to say hello."
Gallagher's smile held, though it never quite reached his eyes. We weren't that close, he thought. The truth lingered behind his composure, unspoken as always.
"I should have," he said instead, smooth as polished glass. "Though I admit, I was more taken by the estate. I had heard it was beautiful, but this… it's quieter than I expected." His gaze drifted briefly along the halls before returning to Kyle. "Enjoy it while you can. Peace like this rarely survives children."
