"Are you even listening, Maeve? Why do you look so flustered?" Fred's voice dragged me back to reality.
I blinked, forcing myself to focus on the man sitting in front of me, the man who once called me a disgrace and shame.
I can't believe he was talking about settling things. After he has shamed me in public for something I didn't even do. Something I was framed for.
Fred sighed, trying to sound gentle. "You should at least consider what I said, Maeve. I'm sorry for cheating on you. At least it wasn't with someone random. That's when there would have been a problem. Mirabelle is your sister you should be grateful for that."
His words hit me like a slap. He said it with no shame. No guilt. Like it was something to be proud of.
This fool of a man brought me to dinner to discuss me being happy he had cheated with my sister?
"the only reason you're agreeing with me is because you got caught Fred." I shot back.
