July 31st - One Day Before Anniversary
I woke up at 6:45 AM to the sound of Asher's alarm. Twenty four hours until the anniversary party. Twenty four hours until I destroyed him in front of everyone.
I lay still, listening to him move through his normal morning routine. But there was nothing normal about today. Today was the last day of our marriage. Tomorrow, everything would burn.
I waited until I heard the shower running and then reached for my regular phone. There was a missed call from Maya.
Asher knew Maya as my friend from my design school, so talking to her wasn't suspicious.
I called her back, she answered on the first ring.
"Is it really happening tomorrow?"
"It's really happening." I kept my voice low, aware that bathroom doors weren't soundproof. "Everything's in place. Tomorrow night, three hundred people will watch me serve him papers and reveal who I really am."
"And he has no idea?"
