Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 – The Echo of Twelve Moons

The night after the council ended was heavier than silence itself.

Aru stood by her window, moonlight spilling across her silver hair, her fingers trembling slightly over the crest pendant that hung from her neck — the sigil of the Celestial Empire.

> "The Gate trembled… and Father looked at him like—"

"Like destiny itself was standing before him…"

She shut her eyes. No matter how she tried to quiet her thoughts, the image of Staryo's calm, distant eyes refused to leave her.

Somewhere deep inside, she could sense it — the same power that made even her father falter.

Across the academy's vast courtyard, Staryo sat beneath the glowing moon trees, Kaelith standing nearby, arms crossed.

"Still awake?" Kaelith asked, his voice half-serious, half-curious.

Staryo didn't reply immediately. His gaze lingered on the stars, those same stars that once pulsed within his soul.

> "The stars feel… louder," Staryo murmured.

"As if they're calling."

Kaelith frowned. "Louder? You make it sound like they're alive."

"They are," Staryo said simply, and for a heartbeat, the air shimmered faintly — a quiet pulse, like the rhythm of a heart that wasn't his.

Kaelith exhaled, smirking. "You really don't fit in this world, do you?"

The Following Morning

The Advanced Academy's grand hall buzzed with energy. Students from all Twelve Kingdoms gathered, their insignias gleaming on cloaks of gold, crimson, emerald, and sapphire.

Today marked the start of the Inter-Kingdom Combat Assessment — the trial that would determine which students were worthy of the "Crown Rank," the academy's highest honor.

Aru entered alongside Staryo and Kaelith. The air shifted instantly — eyes turned, whispers followed.

> "That's him—the one who stood before the Emperor himself."

"And she's the Princess of Light! They're… engaged, right?"

"Rumor says he defied the Celestial Flame. That's not even possible!"

Aru's expression remained composed, but her aura flared slightly, silencing the crowd with an unseen wave of celestial pressure.

Kaelith grinned. "Still got that royal touch, huh?"

Staryo looked at the great banners hanging above — each representing one of the Twelve Kingdoms. He felt their energy intertwine, each kingdom born of a different law of existence.

Solvarn – The Flame Kingdom of eternal conquest.

Nephra – The Oceanic Dominion of tides and prophecy.

Sylvenra – The Forest Elves' realm of harmony.

Vexra – The Shadow Domain of assassins and secrets.

Auralis – The Light Empire, Aru's homeland.

Tenebra – The Dream Kingdom of illusions.

Ryn'kar – The Thunder Realm of warriors.

Mytheron – The Stone Kingdom of strength and fortresses.

Zephyra – The Wind Empire of freedom.

Morthal – The Blood Kingdom of cursed lineage.

Eldoria – The Metal Empire of invention and forge.

Vaelen – The Void Kingdom, silent and forgotten.

Each kingdom's chosen heirs stood proudly among the students — princes, princesses, and prodigies. And more than one pair of eyes lingered on Aru.

> "Aru Veyra of Auralis," announced the instructor, "and Staryo Vel'darion — your names will echo through history if you survive what's to come."

---

Trial One – The Arena of Stars

The first trial was not against monsters — but each other.

A transparent dome formed around the arena, runes flaring to life. Within it, the air rippled like starlight.

The instructor raised a hand.

"Combat is not about victory—it's about revelation. Show the truth of your power!"

The first match began.

Aru stepped forward to face Prince Thalren of Nephra, the Oceanic Kingdom's prodigy. His calm blue eyes reflected the tides themselves.

Thalren bowed respectfully. "Princess Aru… I've long admired your light. Allow me the honor of testing its brilliance."

Aru smiled faintly. "You'll regret asking for it."

The moment the bell rang, waves of shimmering water rose like dragons.

Aru countered, her palm glowing as radiant light exploded, parting the sea with divine precision.

Each clash painted the arena in hues of sapphire and gold.

Outside the dome, Staryo watched silently — his gaze focused, analytical. He could sense every fluctuation of energy.

Kaelith leaned toward him. "She's strong. But you already knew that, huh?"

"She's holding back," Staryo murmured.

Kaelith blinked. "What?"

Aru's final strike came — a sphere of compressed radiance that shattered Thalren's water serpents and sent a shockwave through the arena.

The dome pulsed once, then dimmed.

Victory: Aru Veyra of Auralis.

The crowd erupted in applause.

Thalren bowed again, smiling faintly. "Truly worthy of your title, Princess."

Aru returned the gesture — graceful, but her eyes drifted toward Staryo.

And when their gazes met, the entire world seemed to fall silent for a heartbeat.

---

Trial Two – Staryo's Battle

When Staryo stepped into the arena, whispers turned to awe.

His opponent: Kaelith of Sylvenra, the elf prince himself.

The crowd went wild. Two prodigies. Two powers.

And one rivalry that had been brewing since the first day.

Kaelith drew his dual blades, glowing with nature and wind essence. "No holding back, Staryo. Let's see what you're really made of."

Staryo raised his hand — no weapon, just a faint shimmer of light dancing across his fingertips.

> "As you wish."

The bell chimed.

Kaelith vanished, moving with lightning speed, his blades carving trails of emerald wind. But Staryo's body moved like a ripple through time itself — no wasted motion, no delay.

Every strike missed him by a breath.

Kaelith growled. "Stop dodging!"

In one movement, Staryo stepped forward — not fast, but inevitable. His palm touched Kaelith's chest.

A quiet hum.

Then a shockwave of cosmic pressure burst outward, throwing Kaelith back across the arena. The ground cracked beneath the force.

When the dust settled, Staryo still stood where he began.

The instructor's voice trembled.

"Winner… Staryo Vel'darion."

Silence. Then, thunderous applause.

Aru smiled — proud, but her eyes also reflected something else. Worry.

After the Trials

As the crowd dispersed, Aru and Staryo walked through the empty corridors of the academy. The moonlight outside bathed them in silver glow.

Aru broke the silence first.

"You didn't even use your full strength."

"I didn't need to," Staryo said calmly.

"Then why does it feel like you're holding back from more than just power?"

Staryo paused, his gaze drifting upward. The twelve moons glimmered faintly — but one, the smallest, flickered like it was… afraid.

> "Because some truths," he said quietly, "are better left sleeping."

Aru frowned. "You mean the Gate?"

He didn't answer.

Meanwhile, in the Abyss

A vast expanse of black stars and broken worlds stretched endlessly.

From within the shadows, a figure of molten silver and void stepped forward, eyes glowing with hunger.

> "The seal trembles.

The gods have grown weak.

And he… has returned."

From its body, smaller creatures slithered out — twisted forms of ancient Abyssal Monsters, whispering a name that even the void feared.

> "Vel'darion… the Destroyer of Origins."
