Morpheus's eyelids twitched at Miko's words.
If what Miko described was true, it was indeed a terrifying future.
Black and white inverted, light and darkness unbalanced, a yokai parade roaming in daylight—none of these were good omens.
"What's the cause? Do you know what triggered this?"
There's a saying: there's no smoke without fire.
The human world was fine now. It wouldn't just suddenly descend into chaos and hell.
Something must have happened.
Morpheus was almost certain someone was behind it, and not just anyone.
No ordinary person could pull this off.
"I don't know," Miko replied, shaking her head to Morpheus's question.
Her Spirit Sight had activated on its own, showing her this grim and horrifying future.
But as for the cause, she was completely in the dark.
In that moment, she felt useless, unable to help her divine lord even with this.
Morpheus tapped her forehead lightly. "Calm down. Listen to me. Activate your Spirit Sight and try to see what happens in the future."
Earlier, her Spirit Sight had triggered passively, revealing a glimpse of a dire future.
Now, Morpheus wanted her to actively use it to see if she could uncover more details.
Passive and active visions were entirely different.
Perhaps this time, Miko could see a clearer future.
Following Morpheus's guidance, Miko gradually calmed herself.
She took a deep breath, channeling Light Power into her Spirit Sight, actively peering into the future.
But then, something went wrong.
"I can't see! I can't see anything, Lord Morpheus! It's all gone!"
Miko cried out involuntarily. Normally, activating her Spirit Sight let her glimpse future events.
But this time, there was nothing—just pitch-black darkness, as if the future had vanished.
Panic overwhelmed her.
Morpheus sighed, exasperated, and gave her forehead a firm knock.
Miko yelped, tears welling as she clutched her head, looking at him with watery eyes.
"That hurt, Lord Morpheus."
"I told you to calm down," Morpheus said, unimpressed. "The sky's not falling. Even if it does, I'm tall enough to hold it up. What are you afraid of? Why panic?"
Miko froze, then realized he was right.
With Lord Morpheus here, what was there to fear?
Seeing her calm down, Morpheus asked, "You really can't see the future?"
Miko nodded. "It's gone. I can't see anything. The future is just black, like it doesn't exist."
A nonexistent future?
Morpheus fell into thought. Her Spirit Sight had activated on its own before, showing a future of inverted black and white, unbalanced light and darkness, and yokai parade roaming in daylight. Yet now, actively using it, she saw nothing.
He suspected someone was interfering, targeting abilities like hers that could see the future.
In this chaotic crossover world, stitched together from countless realities, including the Nasuverse, people with future sight weren't rare.
Countering such abilities wasn't impossible.
If that was the case, he'd just have to see this grim future for himself.
"Wait here. I'll be back."
Morpheus leaped, vanishing before Miko's eyes.
Using the vast knowledge he'd gathered as a Magic God, he'd created time magic.
It allowed him to pause time, travel to the future, or return to the past.
However, both moving forward and backward in time consumed immense power.
Unless absolutely necessary, Morpheus avoided using it.
But today, Miko's words had thoroughly piqued his curiosity.
He decided to venture into the future to see what this terrifying, grim reality was all about.
Why would hell descend upon the human world?
Yet, as he neared that dire future, an invisible shockwave surged from the river of time, crashing toward him.
A cold, domineering voice echoed, "Get lost."
Morpheus's pupils contracted. Interesting—someone had detected him crossing time and attacked him mid-journey.
He didn't confront the assailant head-on. In the river of time, a direct clash could disrupt the flow, potentially sweeping him to an unknown point in time.
That would be a hassle.
So, Morpheus retreated, dodging the attack and exiting the river of time, returning to the real world on the academy rooftop.
"Lord Morpheus?" Miko said, confused, seeing him reappear after only a few seconds, unsure what had happened.
Morpheus explained, "I think I understand. You can't see the future because someone's blocking it."
"When they blocked the future, they disturbed the ripples of time, causing your Spirit Sight to activate and glimpse a fragment of it."
Miko's eyes widened. "Is that what happened?"
Morpheus said, "I'm not sure. It's just a theory. To confirm, we'd need to find others with future sight. If I'm right, you're not the only one who saw this future—others must have too."
The problem was, people with future sight were exceedingly rare.
Even Morpheus couldn't immediately recall who else might have this ability.
After some thought, he remembered a few.
Gilgamesh and Solomon both possessed such powers.
But they were currently in the Throne of Heroes, outside the timeline. Whether they could see the future was uncertain.
Then there was Mother of Mifune, who could also see the future.
Additionally, Yhwach, the Father of Quincy, had the Schrift ability "The Almighty," which included future sight.
Kurumi Tokisaki from Date A Live also had the power to foresee the future.
Beyond them, Morpheus recalled a few others with future sight, but their visions were too brief—mere minutes or seconds—likely too short to glimpse this future fragment.
