When Everly read the message, she froze. Then she checked the sender's name. Once. Twice. Three times. She even brought the phone screen so close to her face it nearly collided with her glasses.
Was she hallucinating? Had Cassian's phone been hacked? He wanted to pick her up? He was asking when she'd be done? Like he was actually planning to wait for her and drive her home?
Freya noticed Everly's stunned expression and leaned forward with concern.
"What's wrong? Did someone send you a death threat or something?"
Everly slowly turned to face her, deadly serious.
"I think there's about to be a zombie outbreak. Or maybe a meteor shower. Be prepared."

Cassian acting considerate was so unnatural that Everly genuinely believed the apocalypse was imminent. But before she could type a response, another message popped up.
