William would hear that someone had received the same evaluation as him —not that it was impressive, since Nu was only slightly above average.
Out of curiosity, he would take a peek at who was taking the evaluation.
A rather petite-looking girl with short black hair wearing rather fashionable attire would be busy looking at the sheet of paper her examiner gave her.
As if sensing someone's presence, she would look up and lock eyes with William.
"Hmm? Whatcha lookin' at? Get lost."
Not wanting to be outed as a creep, William would heed her words and get out of the building as fast as he could. While still looking civil, of course.
--------------------------------------------------------------
On the way home, he would stop by a market. He would buy some bread for a couple yuan. He hadn't eaten much thanks to his enhanced body as a reader so it was nice to finally get some sustenance.
With both Loreld and old currencies existing in the world, the economy was in shambles, as Loreld was far more useful in the case of the supernatural world. As the various Verifiers were able to transfer and materialize these coins to trade for goods.
This meant that normal currencies slowly lost their worth over time, which although many governments tried to rectify, it was to no avail.
Thankfully in the shabbier areas such as this, using old currency was still commonplace, which worked out great for William.
With a small shopping bag in hand, he solemmly walk through the slums, all the way back home.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Plopping down on his favorite cushy armchair at Kaelus's library, he would brew himself a nice and hot cup of green tea and enjoy it with the bread he had bought.
'It's been a while since I've had tea, it's nice and hot....'
With him now being an official verifier, he would receive missions through his sync with the massive metallic book at the CVA. Essentially forcing him to have a job. Which was troublesome for someone as lazy as William.
'Shut it. Anyway, I should probably check out the missions available, I should pick something easy to fulfill my quota, so I can can avoid getting berated by the CVA. Seriously, why did they have to force us into employment? Well I mean, I can get why but still!'
[Missions]
1.Find my Cat!
Difficulty: F
Reward: 100 Yuan
2.Investigate an underground organization
Difficulty: S
Reward:Undetermined
3.Hunt down a rogue Verifier of the Reader Rank
Difficulty: A
Reward: Everything that belongs to them.
William would look at the screen calmly. Because of the fact that normal people could issue missions through the CVA, alot of filler missions like the first one exist. The second one was definitely a high class mission that would be extremely dangerous, so he wouldn't take that one for sure. The third one was a difficult mission, but not too difficult, just right, and it would allow him to test out his powers in a combat setting.
...
So of course he picked the first one. After all, he just wanted to fulfill his quota so he could relax and reap the benefits of an average, yet supernatural life.
He would then click on the mission to get more info.
[Details: Grandma Fa has requested someone find her lost cat. It was last seen on Kang Hu road. She is deeply distressed, please do try to find it soon.]
William would nod calmly, before heading out to Kang Hu road.
Once arriving there, he would activate [Describe]
-A open can of tuna will be placed upon every door step of this street.
Just like that, a lifelike illusion of tuna cans was created, enveloping the street. Then he would go around the street and search every nook and cranny of it.
Although he didn't find the cat, he was able to gather enough spacial information to activate his skill.
[Skill: Insight, has been activated!]
Instantly, William's vision would turn fourth dimensional and illusory, seeing the entire neighbourhood and every part of it at the same time. This caused lots of strain on his brain due to how large the affected space was, but he fought through the fatigue to scan for the cat.
He would observe every tuna can at the same time, like a prison warden checking in on their inmates.
'Come on kitty, take the bait!'
He would sit in a tree for a couple minutes, before he saw a tiny flash of beige. It was....a cat, exactly what he was looking for.
[Skill: Writer is activated!]
[Due to your current power level, you may only write 20 words.]
Time would come to a halt as William's body froze up. In his hand an illusory pen would appear, he would then use the pen to write the following sentence.
-The cat would attempt to eat the tuna over and over again, giving enough time for William to catch them.
[Resuming...]
William would sneakily creep over to the small beige cat, before jumping at it from behind and successfully capturing it.
'Gotcha!'
With a kitty in hand, he would activate [Authors Note] on it.
[Given Name: Purrhur]
[Attributes: Agile, Soft Lander]
[Skills: Night Vision, Beg]
'So even animals have skills huh? Hmm, that name doesn't seem like something an old chinese grandma would name their pet. Did it maybe have children and this is one of them?'
William would look at the little beige kitten in his arms with an empty expression on his face, seemingly thinking about something.
[Skill: Writer, is activating]
[Maxmum amount of words: 20]
----------------------------------------------------------------
After a couple penstrokes, the cat would leap out of William's arms and start walking towards somewhere, William would calmly follow behind it.
Eventually, they wound up at a massive cave engraved on a side of a nearby mountain. William would be extremely confused, as what kind of cat would live inside a place like this? The poor fool had yet to pick up on the red flags so far...
'Wait.....what?'
As the kitten happily strolled into the cave, William would suddenly feel a sense of dread...As a malevolent aura would explode from inside the cave alongside a roar so deep it thundered across the nearby area.
It seems he had awoken something he really shouldn't have.
'God....damn it. Overtime.'
