Chapter 127 - "Let's Give Brother Jiang A Surprise When He Wakes Up!"

After all the commotion, Chen Jiang finally had a chance to rest. He lay down on the bed, his head resting on the pillow, eyes half-closed as he drifted into a light doze.

He hadn't gone to sleep in the underground cavern. While it was cooler than the surface, the dampness made his skin feel sticky and uncomfortable.

Besides, with the world tree nearby, even though it was still hot, at least it provided some shade from the scorching sun.

He wasn't sure how long he'd been dozing when he suddenly felt a cool breeze on his face, accompanied by a faint sensation of powdery water droplets drifting onto his skin.

His brow furrowed slightly as he opened his eyes in confusion.

Two hundred meters above the tree's trunk, a phantom gate formed from white mist hovered in the air. Cool spring water gushed forth, cascading directly onto the tree's trunk.

The water droplets, atomized by the height, fell like a fine mist, striking his face with a refreshing chill.

Chen Jiang remained expressionless for a moment before pulling out his walkie-talkie. "Scar Dog, get over here."

"Hey, Brother Jiang, you're awake? Coming right away!"

A cacophony of noise crackled through the walkie-talkie.

Moments later, a phantom gate materialized beside Chen Jiang. Scar Dog emerged, shirtless and drenched in sweat, wiping his brow as he spoke, "Brother Jiang, you're awake! What can I do for you?"

"What's this?" Chen Jiang pointed to the cascading waterfall of spring water pouring from the phantom gate above the world tree.

"Oh, that?" Scar Dog rested his hands on his hips, catching his breath. "I figured it's so hot out here in the wasteland."

"Li Hao said the world tree's roots are constantly spreading underground, but the groundwater's too deep. The roots haven't reached it yet."

"I was worried the tree would wither, so I decided to give it a little watering."

Chen Jiang instinctively wanted to argue, but after opening and closing his mouth a few times, he realized Scar Dog's logic made sense. He paused before saying, "That's thoughtful of you."

"Heh, it's nothing." Scar Dog waved dismissively. A phantom gate instantly appeared above him, and a torrent of spring water gushed down, drenching him.

After a few seconds, the gate vanished.

"Whew!"

Scar Dog pulled a towel from his chest and casually wiped his hair, shaking his head with a refreshed look. "Brother Jiang, you can rest easy. I've got everything planned out."

"Here's the plan for our world tree:"

"First, we need to secure the territory."

"We'll build a perimeter wall to enclose the entire world tree, establishing our base."

"Then, we'll see if we can domesticate some mutated beasts and plant the grain seeds we salvaged from the Living Supplies Warehouse."

"After all, we might be living on this planet for the rest of our lives."

"We need to start building things properly."

"Don't worry, Brother Jiang. You go get some rest. I'll handle the rest."

"..."

Chen Jiang lowered his head in thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I'll go rest in the armored vehicle for a while. Call me if anything comes up."

"Sure thing, Brother Jiang. You go get some rest."

After Chen Jiang left, Scar Dog shook his head and clicked his tongue. He casually activated another phantom gate and strode through it, vanishing from the spot.

Moments later, he reappeared deep within the underground cavern.

Li Hao and Zhao Ritian were already there.

"What's up?" Li Hao asked first. "What did Brother Jiang want?"

"Nothing much."

Scar Dog shook his head and immediately sat cross-legged on the ground. "I just asked about watering the world tree. Brother Jiang has completely passed out this time."

"He's been exhausted for days. I doubt he'll wake up for at least six or seven hours."

"Let's work as quickly as possible and try to surprise him when he wakes up!"

"Phew, that's good." Li Hao nodded in relief.

Scar Dog paused before continuing, "Alright, let's get back to it. Zhao Ritian, keep drawing."

"Got it."

It was a chance discovery that Zhao Ritian had been an art student on Blue Star and was quite skilled at drawing.

"This time, we'll still use the shotgun as the main component," Scar Dog said, thinking aloud. "But we need to install a pulley directly above the shotgun, positioned right over the barrel."

"Done?"

"Done."

With a few quick strokes, Zhao Ritian sketched a rough design on the paper.

The drawing showed a man gripping the shotgun with both hands, its pulley looped over a high-hanging rope. His legs were slightly bent, as if preparing to jump down.

"Hmm, not bad."

Scar Dog nodded in satisfaction, took the design sketch, and set it aside before continuing, "Alright, next one. This time, we'll still use a shotgun as the base."

His grand city planning project required a wide variety of components.

But they had no reliable sources for these parts, nor the means to manufacture them.

Their only option was to resort to ingenuity.

They would leverage Brother Jiang's ability for unrestrained modification. As long as the base was a firearm, he could transform it into anything they needed.

This way, they could convert firearms into various components.

For example, pulleys.

A stack of design sketches had already accumulated nearby.

Clearly, these were all items they planned to have Brother Jiang modify later. The sketches were meant to help him understand their ideas more easily.

As for Li Hao, he sat cross-legged beside them.

Above his head, a map manifestation composed of white light projected a 3D holographic map. He diligently recorded data onto paper.

They didn't need to take measurements themselves.

The distance data provided by the map manifestation was the most accurate available.

The only complication was that the 3D map only showed distance ratios, not specific measurements.

Li Hao had to use a ruler to measure distances on the map and then convert them using the scale to obtain the actual figures they needed, which he recorded on paper.

For a while, the three were completely absorbed in their tasks, each focused on their respective roles.

Meanwhile, nearly a hundred mechanical race slaves stood nearby, constantly picking up new Coughing Flamethrowers and firing them at the ground.

Zhao Ritian would occasionally glance over, instantly spawning a large number of slimes.

Under the intense beams of numerous flashlights, the entire underground cavern buzzed with a sense of industrious activity.

Everyone was diligently performing their assigned duties.

The only one who seemed to be doing nothing was Chen Jiang.

At that moment, Chen Jiang was lounging in the armored vehicle on the surface, enjoying the air conditioning with his seat reclined, savoring this hard-earned moment of bliss.

The massive turret stood beside the vehicle like a silent, loyal bodyguard.
