"Are you sent by Trigg Omollen?" Lord Linde looked at the woman in front of him, and hearing her words, he already knew that she must have left Jorah Mormont and become Trigg Omollen's mistress.
"Yes, Lord Linde." Lynesse calmly looked at Lord Linde, took out the agreements of allegiance given to her by the Lysene nobles, and said, "This is the agreement of allegiance jointly signed by the Governor and Trade Princes of Lys. They acknowledge your sovereignty over Lys and the Disputed Lands."
Lord Linde did not even glance at the agreement, but instead asked a completely unrelated question, "Where is Jorah Mormont?"
A hint of sadness flashed across Lynesse's face, and she said, "He has left me and gone to Pentos alone."
"He left you?" At this moment, Lord Linde seemed more interested in Jorah and her affairs, and asked curiously, "Didn't you abandon him?"
"I abandoned him?" Lynesse scoffed, "I never thought of abandoning him. If I wanted to abandon him, I wouldn't have come to Lys with him in the first place. I could have lived perfectly well by returning to Oldtown. I suggested seeking refuge in Oldtown back then, after all, no matter how loud a wolf's howl is, it couldn't have any effect from as far away as Oldtown. But his pride wouldn't allow him to live in my father's territory. He preferred to come to Lys to struggle and suffer, believing he could rise again, but he couldn't even be a good mercenary. After that, he couldn't even make ends meet, was kicked out of the inn, and couldn't even get food. He couldn't solve it, only drank. And I solved our living problems, but he resented me, cursing me for ruining him."
Lord Linde said in a deep voice, "Your so-called solution was to become Trigg Omollen's mistress?"
"Lord Linde, do you also look down on me?" Lynesse lifted her head, trying to appear prouder, and said, "I don't know how to weave, I don't know how to forge, and I don't have much knowledge. I can't be a tutor for Lysene nobles, and I certainly can't humble myself to wash clothes for prostitutes in brothels. The only thing I can use is my beauty. I want to survive, to live well, and my husband couldn't do any of this. I could only do it myself. Am I wrong?"
Lord Linde did not offer any judgment. He merely asked in confusion, "Jorah Mormont and I met in Bello Town, and I lent him two thousand gold dragons. Logically speaking, no matter how extravagant you two were, you shouldn't have spent two thousand gold dragons so quickly."
"Didn't I say? He couldn't even be a mercenary." A clear expression of disdain appeared on Lynesse's face, and she said, "When he was returning, he was attacked, and all his money was stolen. It was I who sold all my jewelry and found the best apothecary in Lys to rescue him from the brink of death. It was also I who sold my body, becoming someone else's mistress, to get money so he could recover. But what about him? Just a spineless, cowardly man!"
Lynesse did not continue speaking; her disgust for Jorah was already evident.
Lord Linde could not make any judgment as to who was right or wrong between Jorah and his wife, because neither of their accounts could be trusted. Lynesse was definitely not as innocent as she claimed; at the very least, her extravagant spending was the source of all the couple's misfortunes. Likewise, Jorah was certainly not as compliant with Lynesse as he made himself out to be; otherwise, if they had settled in Oldtown as Lynesse suggested, the Stark death penalty would not have harmed him in any way, and he would still have lived comfortably, at least far more comfortably than in Lys.
After satisfying his curiosity, Lord Linde refocused on the main topic, indicating that he accepted Lys's allegiance, and wrote down several instructions for Trigg and others to execute, handing them to Lynesse.
As Lynesse was leaving, Lord Linde asked, "After the matters in Lys are concluded, I will send you back to Oldtown, or to settle in Summerhall or Highgarden. I think Lady Allerie and Moroa would be very happy if you could…"
Lynesse shook her head before Lord Linde could finish, saying, "No need! I'm doing very well now. Trigg treats me very well; he buys me whatever I want. I am very satisfied with my current life."
After speaking, she boarded the waiting small boat and quickly sailed towards the Lysene sailboat she had arrived on.
"I never thought Miss Lynesse would become someone else's mistress," Jon said with a sigh of emotion. "Those suitors in Oldtown back then would probably die of heartbreak."
"Suitors? Including you?" Lord Linde asked with a smile. "Does Lady Victoria know about this?"
Jon quickly shook his head in denial, saying, "My Lord, that's not a joke to be made."
Lord Linde smiled, then turned and returned to the captain's cabin. Jon followed closely.
An agreement of allegiance signed by all governors and trade princes was thus secretly sent out of Lys and into Lord Linde's hands, while the Volantene occupation forces stationed in Lys were still completely unaware of it.
The Three Sea Monsters Alliance warships led by Lord Linde advanced to the outer sea of Lys and were discovered by Volantis's patrol fleet. The Volantene occupation fleet immediately set out to intercept them at sea, and when the fleet departed, it also took away nearly seventy percent of the occupation forces' strength.
To the Volantene occupation forces, Lord Linde's danger level was clearly far higher than that of the Lysene nobles who had already bowed their heads in submission. Therefore, all their attention was focused on Lord Linde, and the occupation forces also began constructing defensive works at the docks to prevent Lord Linde's ships from docking and landing.
However, just as everyone was awaiting news from the sea interception fleet, the Lysene nobles, who were thought to have given up resistance, suddenly attacked the docks with their warriors and servants. They not only defeated the unprepared Volantene occupation forces but also drove them out of the docks. Afterward, they moved all the ships to the estuary, blocking it there to prevent the defeated Volantene fleet from smoothly landing at the docks upon its return.
However, the Volantene fleet they imagined being defeated did not occur, because before the Volantene fleet even appeared before Lord Linde, it was attacked. The Sea Dragon Glutton directly swallowed and burned several of the fleet's command flagships. Everyone on board was burned to death without exception. The entire Volantene fleet lost its commanders and, surrounded by the Three Sea Monsters Alliance fleet, could only surrender.
When Lord Linde's fleet, escorting the captured Volantene ships, appeared in the waters near the Lys docks, the Volantene general still assaulting the docks finally realized that the tide had turned and had no choice but to surrender. However, his surrender was not to Lys, but to Lord Linde's Summerhall.
What happened in Lys quickly spread back to Volantis via merchant ships allowed to depart after the battle.
