Chapter 491 - Chapter 485 : Although, during the war

Although, during the war, Tyrion had done his best to care for the people of King's Landing, even going so far as to raid the homes of the powerful and wealthy to procure food, preventing famine in the city and ensuring everyone had something to eat every day, even if it wasn't good food, at least they could survive.

But his actions were very secretive; only a few people close to him truly knew and understood them. The common people of King's Landing were unaware of this. They only remembered Tyrion forcibly conscripting soldiers, requisitioning houses near the city walls, and sending Gold Cloaks to extort money and goods from within the city, and so on.

Therefore, Tyrion had quickly surpassed Tywin to become the most hated person in King's Landing. "The Imp" was the common people of King's Landing's nickname for Tyrion, and it was even used in public.

King's Landing's disdain for Lannister and its fondness for House Tyrell was also evident in the welcome each army received upon entering the city.

When House Tyrell entered the city, the people greeted them with cheers, flowers, and kisses from young girls. But when Lannister entered, they received only cold stares, and some even had their children urinate on the Lannister army.

The reason the people of King's Landing were so bold was entirely because, upon entering the city, House Tyrell immediately took over all defenses of King's Landing in the name of maintaining order. When the Lannister army entered, those responsible for maintaining order were all House Tyrell's troops, and House Tyrell's troops effectively prevented the enraged Lannister soldiers from attacking the people of King's Landing, further earning the love and trust of King's Landing's citizens.

Tywin also immediately noticed the unusual atmosphere in King's Landing. He forcibly had his own army take over the Red Keep's defenses, and to win the hearts of King's Landing's people, he put Tyrion, the greatest hero in defending King's Landing, under house arrest.

While this eased the tension between Tyrion and the powerful nobles of King's Landing whom he had offended, it did not significantly help in winning the hearts of King's Landing's common folk.

And what was worse, it was unclear how Garlan Tyrell managed it, but his relationship with Joffrey became very good. Joffrey practically followed Garlan's suggestions to the letter, and in one public meeting, Joffrey even directly expressed his wish for Garlan to become the Kings Hand.

All of this made Tywin feel as if his victory had been stolen. He had led his men to fight outside, even his brother died on the battlefield, but the ultimate spoils of victory were snatched by House Tyrell, a mere opportunist who had only fought one battle. This was something Tywin could not accept. So, when Littlefinger Petyr Baelish suggested to him that he bring Dorne in to oppose House Tyrell, he quickly accepted the suggestion and sent an invitation letter to Dorne, using Joffrey's wedding as an excuse.

However, when Tywin calmed down and thought about it carefully, he realized that inviting Dorne to join the power structure of King's Landing was a very foolish thing to do, but at this point, it was impossible to withdraw the invitation.

"What? Father actually invited Dorne to King's Landing? Is he crazy? Did Uncle Kevan take his brain with him when he died?" When Jaime told Tyrion, who was under house arrest in his own residence, about Tywin's decision to invite Dorne to the Small Council, Tyrion was utterly shocked and blurted out without restraint.

Hearing Tyrion speak of Tywin that way, Jaime couldn't help but frown and said, "What you're saying is a bit malicious, although..."

"Malicious? Can I be as malicious as him?" Tyrion took a large gulp of wine and retorted angrily, "If I weren't a Lannister, he might have already hung my head on the city gate to curry favor with those guys. You know, I was the greatest hero in defending King's Landing. Without me, King's Landing would have fallen into Stannis's hands long ago. But what did I get? Nothing. He didn't even give me a single word of praise; he just arrested me directly."

Jaime said in a deep voice, "I think Father put you under house arrest to protect you. After all, you've offended so many people; thousands in King's Landing want you dead. If you weren't confined here and were allowed to walk around freely outside, I think what I'd be seeing now would be your corpse, Tyrion."

"I think your brother is right," Bronn said, snatching the wine skin from Tyrion's hand.

"You're quite good at finding new masters, aren't you? In just a few days, you've become his lackey?" Tyrion squinted at Bronn.

"I can't help it, who can resist the charm of golden dragons?" Bronn shrugged, looking helpless, then pointed at Jaime and said, "Duke Tywin has already had His Majesty Joffrey dismiss your brother from the Kingsguard. He has agreed to return to Casterly Rock to inherit the title."

Upon hearing this, Tyrion's wine cup dropped to the floor. He then looked Jaime up and down, saying in shock, "Who are you? You can't be Jaime. If it were Jaime, he would never take off his white cloak."

"With no hand, how can I be a Kingsguard?" Jaime looked sadly at his hand and said, "Perhaps it's truly as Father said, I lost a hand but gained a brain. I've learned to think things through, to consider the gains and losses and consequences of every action, no longer like before..."

"Tell the truth, Jaime! Tell the truth." Tyrion interrupted Jaime's emotional monologue and said, "I should know you better than you know yourself. Don't talk about losing one hand; even if you lost both hands and feet, you wouldn't willingly take off your white cloak, Jaime. It's better if you just tell the truth."

Jaime said with a serious expression, "Father threatened me with Cersei, Joffrey, and Tommen. If I didn't agree, he would take their lives."

Tyrion was stunned by this, not having expected Tywin's methods to be so extreme.

"You'd best listen to Father," Tyrion said with a serious expression, "Uncle Kevan's death hit him too hard. Uncle Kevan was like the embodiment of Father's rationality; it was because of Uncle Kevan's suppression that Father could control his volatile side and always view things rationally. But now that Uncle Kevan is dead, Father has lost his rationality. He will become increasingly severe, just like..."

"Just like Mad King Aerys," Bronn suddenly interjected.

Tyrion and Jaime exchanged glances, their expressions also turning somewhat grim.
