In the hospital's public lounge, Eric silently watched Louise and Chloe.
"You really don't know where Clark is?"
Louise was the first to ask Eric.
"I will not repeat a lie countless times. If Clark wants to hide, even I cannot find him."
Eric shook his head. "Unless he wants to show himself, no one will find him if he doesn't want to be found."
"Not necessarily, right? When Clark wore the red kryptonite ring before, you found him easily."
Louise said to Eric.
"That's because he wanted me to find him. Alright, let's get back to the normal topic. Louise, was the purpose of calling me here just to get to the bottom of Clark's whereabouts?"
"No, Clark is just one aspect. The most important thing is, I think Eric, you look like a frightened child right now."
Louise said to Eric, ignoring Chloe's astonished look beside her.
"It's not that I'm frightened, it's that you're frightened."
Hearing that Louise was going to continue debating with him about so-called good and evil, Eric immediately lost interest.
Louise said to Eric, "But what you did caused many people to lose their lives. For example, your actions in Gotham. Many people think you are wrong. Using violence to stop violence will only make this city more chaotic and disorderly."
"I hope you are right, but obviously, the examples you gave cannot convince me. Gotham is already sick!"
"Those criminals don't deserve sympathy. Their psychological flaws are not an excuse. Anyone who makes a mistake will be punished. This is the most obvious truth."
Eric said to her coldly, "Compared to those who did nothing before, I am a person with less patience and very low tolerance."
"You cannot become the ruler of the world! Eric, this world is always full of strange and incomprehensible existences. It will not be controlled by you so easily."
Louise said to Eric seriously, "A tyrannical rule cannot currently gain the support of the people. Eric, you need more calm thinking right now."
"I've always been calm. On the contrary, Louise Lane, if you stand here now trying to talk to me about so-called 'turning over a new leaf,' then it's just a waste of time."
Eric shook his head at the other party and said, "If you stand on Clark's side, then you will completely become my enemy. I will not discuss too much about so-called path choices with my enemies."
"I have something else to do, I'll be leaving now."
After Eric finished speaking to the two women, he turned and left.
Louise wanted to say something else, but her cousin Chloe immediately pulled her back.
"Louise!"
"What?"
"You need to calm down."
"I've always been calm."
Louise looked at her cousin, who was pulling her clothes, and said, "I just feel…"
She sighed dejectedly, "I should do something. The Eric before, he wasn't like this. What if these actions are just an impulse of his?! He lost Jonathan and Lana. I know this is hard for him, but I don't want him to regret it later."
Louise expressed her thoughts. ♙ ♕ ♦ ♦
"Louise, none of us are futurists. We cannot determine the future, but what if this isn't just an impulse of Eric's?!"
Chloe held her cousin's right hand and said, "We are powerless to change anything now. The current Eric will not be persuaded by anyone, and he is no longer the Eric from Smallville. So Louise, you were too impulsive just now."
"Alright."
Louise reluctantly turned around and looked at her cousin, who was holding her sleeve.
"Then we can only fight as reporters."
Chloe let go of her cousin's clothes and added, "I have to add, I'm still a trainee reporter, and my main job is my studies."
She looked at Eric's receding back, her expression somewhat complicated as she spoke.
Her main job was not her studies; she simply didn't know how to face Eric right now, so she subconsciously wanted to escape.
But Louise immediately saw through her. "Your main job is, of course, being a reporter. Don't think about escaping. We are close comrades standing in the same trench."
Chloe: "…"
Fawcett City.
An eleven or twelve-year-old boy stood in the park, holding his phone, talking incessantly.
There weren't many people in the park during the day, only a few dog walkers with their dogs on leashes.
"Hi, my name is Billy Batson. Do you have time to answer a question about superheroes?"
Billy asked a Black man who appeared in his live video stream.
The software he used could randomly connect different people for conversations between strangers on the internet.
The Black man on the other side asked Billy, "Is this for a school assignment, or some other activity?"
"Neither."
Billy scratched his head. "I just want to know what you think about Homelander's recent actions. In short, do you think his actions are right or wrong?"
Before the Black man on the other end of the phone could speak, several rebellious-looking girls with nose rings and heavy makeup squeezed in front of the camera beside him. "Of course, they're right! I think Homelander's actions are absolutely cool. Being ruled by a god-like being with superpowers, I think that should be a good experience! Anyway, those politicians are busy doing nothing all day. Maybe next time when aliens come, Homelander can lead us to fight against them!"
"Alright!"
After Billy hung up the call with the rebellious punk girls, he connected to another stranger.
This time, the stranger who appeared was an old lady.
The old lady, wearing reading glasses, said she didn't want to comment.
"I don't want to make any comments. What if they're listening in? They might be listening to our conversation right now. They might be watching me shower."
Billy stared blankly for two seconds, somewhat confused, then asked the other person, "So you're afraid of Homelander and his superheroes?"
"I said I don't want to make any comments."
The old lady said angrily and immediately hung up the video call.
"Alright!"
Billy mumbled, looked at his phone, thought for a moment, and connected to the last stranger.
This time, the person on the other end of the video was an old man, seemingly an expert scholar.
After the old man connected the video call with Billy, he asked him, "Why?"
Billy rubbed his nose and asked confusedly, "Why what?"
"Why are you doing this? Or rather, why are you conducting this survey?"
The old man asked Billy.
"I… I just want an answer, because I'm a bit confused right now."
Billy thought for a moment, adjusted the position of his phone in his hand to hold it more comfortably.
"Don't you think Homelander is going a bit too far? Aren't you worried at all?"
The old man touched his bald head and said to Billy somewhat angrily, "Are you kidding me? I can't wait for Homelander to quickly deal with those politicians and the warlords who occupy positions without doing anything, and then quickly come back to deal with things here."
The old man grew angrier as he spoke, spitting as he talked. "Start with those corrupt politicians. They only turn a blind eye to illegal businesses. And, those so-called public representatives should also be locked up. Their actions are actually only for their own political interests, thereby eroding this country."
The old man seemed to be an angry youth, expressing his indignation and his support for Homelander.
"Alright, thank you for accepting my call."
Billy thoughtfully hung up the video call.
