Chapter 134 - Suffering a Double Loss

"Ugh… I can't take it anymore, I give up, okay, Fíliya… Don't make me drink any more."

After her fourth mug of beer, Miss Frieren finally couldn't hold on and pleaded for mercy, but after several seconds, she received no response from Fíliya.

So Frieren lifted her head… and in her line of sight, Fíliya's face was impossibly red. Her whole body seemed to have had its soul sucked out, slumping in her seat with a vacant stare.

"Hmm… hmm?… Fí…li…ya, what… did you say?"

Fíliya vigorously dug at her ear, as if she couldn't hear Frieren's call.

Fíliya's reaction instantly sobered Frieren up quite a bit. She looked at the human girl before her with a shocked expression.

"This girl… it can't be her first time drinking alcohol, can it (ΩΔΩ)?"

Beyond her shock, Frieren quickly glanced at the mug in front of Fíliya. There was clearly still more than half of the liquid left undrunk.

"What's going on… Does this mean Fíliya passed out after just half a mug… She really is the kid here!"

Frieren was instantly filled with confidence.

And Fíliya clearly never expected to have shot herself in the foot this time.

If she had another chance, she would absolutely not have tried to mess with Frieren this way.

Although it was indeed Fíliya's first time drinking, she never imagined her compatibility with alcohol would be this terrible.

Seeing that Fíliya was even on the verge of passing out, Frieren quickly got up from her seat and went to her side.

"Hey, Fíliya, wake up. Are you okay?"

Frieren asked with concern.

"No… not… at all… I want to throw up."

Fíliya replied with difficulty, even covering her mouth with her hand, her expression one of extreme discomfort.

"Uh… didn't you say you knew a magic to sober up? Hurry up and use it on yourself."

Frieren urged her on, simultaneously taking half a step back with a nervous look. She was genuinely a little worried Fíliya would throw up on her.

"Let me think… that magic… how do you use it again?"

Fíliya was seen frowning, her expression a mix of discomfort and anxiety.

"Uh…"

In response, Frieren could only take another step back, just in case.

Fortunately, Miss Fíliya ultimately did not end up vomiting in the tavern. Although her personality had nothing to do with being a lady, throwing up all over a place like this would undoubtedly deal a severe blow to what little maidenly heart she had left.

"Ah… I'm alive again."

After successfully sobering up with the magic, Miss Fíliya immediately slumped back into her seat with relief.

She had only one thought in her mind right now: it was a great thing that she enjoyed researching folk magic.

It was a great thing that she learned this sobering magic out of interest! It was practically one of the best decisions Fíliya had ever made in her life!

"I'm sorry, Frieren. I shouldn't have tried to mess with you like this. This really backfired on me…"

After recovering, Miss Fíliya was very honest, offering Frieren an apology. At the same time, she also handily cleared the smell of alcohol from Frieren, since Fern would definitely be furious if she found out the two had really been drinking.

"Mm, if you know you're wrong and correct it, you can still be saved… So, Miss Fíliya, what did you learn from this incident?"

Frieren finally had the chance to take on the lecturing posture of an elder in front of Fíliya, so she seemed to cherish the opportunity.

"Mmm… I only learned one thing… that alcohol really is no good."

Fíliya said with a serious expression.

"Huh? What about towards me?"

Frieren puffed out her cheeks again. That simple apology from before wasn't enough to satisfy her; she was waiting for Fíliya to apologize further.

"Huh? There's nothing else."

Fíliya just blinked simply at this, a little confused about what this old thing in front of her was expecting.

"Tsk… I knew it, just go die!"

Frieren said, pouncing directly onto Fíliya. She then began to grab Fíliya's face with both hands, pulling her cheeks forcefully to the sides.

After roughhousing with Frieren for a short while, the two finally separated and returned to a more proper state.

"So… what should we do with these things?"

Frieren asked Fíliya, pointing at the remaining 45 bottles of liquor.

"Hmm, good point. Let me think."

Although Fíliya said that, her first thought wasn't about the alcohol. Instead, her gaze swept over the drunkards in the tavern.

Although these guys were acting very restrained now, with calm and tense faces as if they hadn't seen what was happening over here at all, Fíliya was certain that the moment she and Frieren left this tavern, the place would immediately be filled with an air of amusement.

These guys definitely saw her disgraceful display, but they didn't show it due to the pressure of her being a mage.

"Well then… I guess I'll just have to silence them all…" Fíliya gritted her teeth.

Of course, this was just an angry joke.

Sigh… in the end, I can only blame myself for not holding my liquor… Fíliya shook her head helplessly and then shouted towards the bar again.

"Bartender, the rest of these, give them to everyone here. A round for the house!"

That's right, Miss Fíliya's idea was: if you can't intimidate them, then bribe them. Although the alcohol wasn't particularly valuable, for these drunkards addicted to it, it was a pretty good gift.

No! In Miss Fíliya's mind, this couldn't be considered a bribe.

You see, alcohol is a very terrible, bad thing. And now she was giving this 'bad thing' to these drunkards, so it wasn't a bribe, but a punishment!

That's right, these guys received her punishment, so they wouldn't dare laugh at her!

Whether anyone else believed it or not, Miss Fíliya had convinced herself.

And Fíliya's strategy was clearly effective. After she announced she was giving the alcohol to everyone in the tavern, a cheer erupted. As for what happened before, everyone could tacitly pretend that nothing had happened.

And so, Fíliya and Frieren were finally able to leave the tavern safely.

"Sigh… I shouldn't have come here."

The moment she walked out of the tavern, Fíliya couldn't help but let out a sigh.

"Why?"

Frieren asked.

"Because I made a fool of myself, of course. Don't let my appearance fool you, I have a maiden's heart too, okay?"

Fíliya pouted coquettishly.

"Is that so… But because of what just happened, I was able to get to know you better, Fíliya."

Frieren's smile at that moment was very faint and held a hint of gentleness.

"Huh?"

Fíliya looked at Frieren in confusion.

"Mmm… even though you have terrifying magical skills at such a young age, you really are just a young girl in the prime of her youth, Fíliya."

Frieren said with a light chuckle, at the same time reaching out and patting Fíliya's head.

"Tch, as if you're so mature. You're just a person whose age is the only thing that's growing."

Fíliya pouted disdainfully, but in the end, she didn't refuse Frieren's head pat.

"Hehe, let's set aside the topic of who's more mature for now, Fíliya… Come with me."

Frieren said this and took a small step forward to lead the way.

"Hmm? Where are we going?"

Although Fíliya voiced her suspicion, she still obediently followed behind Frieren.

"To buy a gift for Fern, of course. Today is that child's birthday. We should show a little consideration, so… will you come shopping with me?"

Frieren didn't stop walking. She just turned her head and once again gave Fíliya a smile.
