Chapter 43 - 43 Kaelith the Puppeteer

Shinju followed the stranger ahead of him like a shadow, moving deeper into the forest.

Without even turning back, the man whispered:

"Follow quietly… or the girl dies."

"We got that part," Shinju replied, forcing down the anger in his voice."Just make sure Koharu is still alive."

"Don't worry," the stranger said, his voice echoing through the leaves."She's been waiting for you… quite impatiently."

As they walked, Shinju noticed something strange beneath his feet.

Thin, black strands moved across the ground like snakes.

At first, there were only a few.

But as they went deeper…

Hundreds.Thousands.Tens of thousands.

Shinju crouched and looked closer.

They weren't vines.

They were… hair.

Human hair.

He picked one up.

The strand pulsed faintly, like a living thing.

It carried Yin energy like a wire conducting electricity—vibrating between his fingers.

Curiosity got the better of him.

The moment he snapped a single strand—

The stranger stopped.

Slowly turned.

His eyes burned with madness.

"Damage even a single strand…" he hissed,"…and the girl is dead."

Shinju clenched his teeth and dropped it immediately.

"…Fine. Keep walking."

Eventually, they arrived at the entrance of a massive cave.

The walls, the ceiling—every inch of it—

Was covered in those same writhing black strands.

The interior was pitch black.

Alive.

The stranger stopped and let out a chilling laugh.

"From here on… you go alone."

A pause.

"Koharu is inside."

His voice dropped.

"But remember—break a single strand… and her life ends."

Shinju stepped inside.

At first, he thought it would be impossible to move without touching the strands—

But as he walked…

They moved.

The hair parted around him.

As if making way.

As if welcoming him.

"Koharu!" Shinju called out.

No answer.

Only the faint, constant rustling of hair brushing against hair.

At the far end of the cave—

A massive silhouette emerged.

Its hair spread across the entire cavern like a spider's web.

The density of Yin energy was so overwhelming…

The air itself trembled.

"Welcome," the figure said.

Its voice came from everywhere at once.

Shinju stopped.

"…Who are you?"

"My name is Kaelith."

A pause.

"Since introductions are out of the way…"

A snap of his fingers echoed.

"I believe this is what you're looking for."

The massive wall of hair slowly parted.

Shinju froze.

Koharu.

She was there—

Suspended against the wall.

Hair strands wrapped around her neck, arms, legs—even her mouth—

Binding her like a cocoon.

Her eyes were filled with terror.

She could only struggle weakly, gasping for air.

"What kind of monster are you?!" Shinju roared.

Kaelith laughed.

"A monster?"

His voice twisted.

"You and I are the same, Shinju."

"I channel the essence of the Void through my hair…"

"…and you materialize it directly."

A pause.

"If anything… you're the real monster."

His eyes gleamed.

"I don't know how you obtained that power… but once I take you…"

"…it will be mine."

"I will spread the essence of the Void across this entire planet—without needing these strands."

"You think I'd allow that?"

Kaelith didn't answer.

He simply tightened his hand slightly.

The strands around Koharu's throat constricted instantly.

Her body jerked violently.

She couldn't breathe.

Her face began to turn purple.

"STOP!" Shinju shouted.

Kaelith relaxed his grip.

"Don't worry…"

His voice softened.

"With me, everyone on this planet will live in peace."

"You… Koharu… everyone."

A pause.

"…Without fear of being attacked."

Then he laughed again.

"…Of course, under my control."

His tone shifted.

Darker.

Sadder.

Sick.

"This world was never fair to me, Shinju."

"You should understand."

His voice lowered.

"When I was just a child…"

"…my family… my friends…"

"One by one…"

"They were hunted by Void creatures."

Silence.

"I had no one left to talk to."

"So I created them."

His fingers twitched.

"I used bones… branches… and my hair… to make puppets."

"I spoke to them for years."

His eyes widened slightly.

"And I realized something."

"When they were under my control…"

"…they never hurt each other."

A slow breath.

"Eventually, I learned to control them without using my hands."

"And then I thought…"

His voice sharpened.

"What if I could control the living too?"

His arms spread.

"Look at this forest."

"Every living thing here… is a part of me."

A smile.

"Isn't this a perfect utopia?"

"In this forest…"

"No one harms anyone."

His gaze locked onto Shinju.

"Submit yourself to me."

"I will grant you peace."

Shinju gritted his teeth, staring at Koharu.

He's completely insane…

What kind of life is that… living as someone else's puppet?

"Your time is running out," Kaelith said.

The strands tightened again.

Koharu convulsed in pain.

Shinju couldn't take it anymore.

"…Fine."

A pause.

"…I'll allow it."

Instantly—

The strands wrapped around Shinju's wrists and ankles—

Lifting him into the air.

A throne made of hair formed behind him—

Bringing him face-to-face with Kaelith.

"Don't resist," Kaelith said calmly.

From his head, new strands emerged—

Thin.

Sharp.

Like needles.

They moved toward Shinju's right eye.

The moment they pierced his pupil—

Kaelith froze.

"…Incredible."

"You're absorbing them…"

A slow smile spread across his face.

"But these strands aren't like the Yin you consume, Shinju."

"Each one carries my DNA."

His voice dropped.

"I'm marking you."

"Slowly…"

"Piece by piece…"

"Soon…"

"You will belong to me."

Shinju felt something foreign take root deep within his eye.

The darkness was no longer just around him—

It was spreading…

Into the deepest parts of his soul.
