The dust was still settling when Magellan reappeared.
He was standing in the same place he had been standing before Momonosuke's fist reached him. The two curved horns on his head had snapped off at the base — blown clean away by the impact — and his black uniform was shredded across the chest, hanging in strips. Debris had piled up around his feet.
That was all.
The walls behind him had fared considerably worse. Whatever structural tolerances the builders of Still Water Prison had engineered into the stone and steel, they had never anticipated something with Momonosuke's combination of Armament and Conqueror's Haki channeled through a Mythical Zoan's body. If this had been any ordinary building, the entire floor would have come down.
Domino and Hannibal were gone. Magellan had used his body as the barrier, and it had worked. They were alive, retreating through the sealed corridors per his instruction. Without them to protect, he could now move properly.
Momonosuke watched the debris stop falling and exhaled slowly.
"You're strong," he said. "I thought that might do it. Apparently not." He sounded almost respectful. "This is going to take longer than I planned."
Magellan's voice was flat. "You came alone and you came for prisoners. You won't reach them without stepping over my body."
"That's fine." Momonosuke rolled his neck. "That was always the plan."
The Doku Doku no Mi (Venom-Venom Fruit) had been running at capacity since the moment Momonosuke cleared the gap in the wall. Now it redoubled. Purple venom welled up from every exposed surface of Magellan's skin, thick and glistening, sheeting down his arms and torso until he was less a man wearing venom than a venom construct shaped like a man.
Above him, the liquid rose.
It gathered upward in long sinuous columns, each one taking form as it rose — ten of them, coiling and swaying with autonomous rhythm, heads emerging from the fluid with the particular unhurried menace of things that knew nothing could stop them. Ten purple dragons, each one gleaming with inner light, assembled themselves above Magellan's head and oriented toward the intruder.
Hydra.
They struck simultaneously — not in a line but in a spread, filling the corridor with overlapping arcs of attack, mouths opening to release concentrated toxin in dense streams rather than the scattered projectile approach of the Doku Fugu. The volume of venom involved was staggering; the air turned chemical within seconds, a purple haze that would have stopped a lesser opponent's lungs.
Momonosuke gave ground. Not a retreat — a tactical step backward to open space, his expression calculating rather than alarmed.
"Even with Armament Haki coating my whole body," he said, keeping the dragons at range, "this much toxin would eat through in minutes." He glanced at the writhing forms. "No wonder Luffy-senpai went down the way he did when he was still weak. You're a genuinely terrible person to fight."
He had been wondering about the nature of the liquid. ally: whether it was afraid of fire.
He opened his mouth.
The inhalation was deep and slow, the way a furnace draws air before it ignites — the warmth building in his chest, running up through his throat, his scales flickering at the edges of the heat. His jaw dropped wide, and what came out was not a roar but a column — a continuous stream of superheated breath, concentrated and driving forward with locomotive force, carrying temperature sufficient to distort the air around it into shimmering waves.
The ten poison dragons met the flame.
There was no contest. Liquid venom and fire have a straightforward relationship, and Magellan's hydra collapsed into ash and steam the moment the heat touched them, each one dissolving without trace, not a drop of toxin surviving the temperature. The flame washed over the space they had occupied and continued to the far wall.
Magellan absorbed it.
He had layered Armament Haki beneath the venom — black hardening beneath the purple — and the combination held. The fire scorched across him and the outer venom burned away, but the Armament layer beneath redirected the heat, and his body's own production replenished the outer coat immediately. What remained of the flame guttered and died against the renewed purple liquid, extinguished, not even embers left on his body.
Magellan exhaled a thread of smoke.
"Fire-breathing." He sounded more resigned than alarmed. "Of course."
He had recalculated. Long-range poison saturation wasn't working — the dragon constitution shrugged off direct contact toxin, and the fire breath neutralized area-effect delivery. Changing approach.
The venom shifted in character. The purple receded; what replaced it was red — a different compound entirely, rising through Magellan's skin as the Doku Doku no Mi synthesized something new. It ran thicker, slower, and it smoked where it dripped on the stone floor, the impact points dissolving inward, the rock itself becoming poisoned and crumbling.
The red venom climbed.
It built outward from him rather than upward — accumulating mass, fusing with itself, constructing rather than flowing. The shape it took was enormous and terrible: a skeleton, assembled piece by piece from condensed red poison, each bone a concentrated rod of toxin, the joints connecting with wet sounds as the structure locked into place. It rose through the ceiling height and beyond, the floor groaning under it, the walls cracking outward from the space it occupied. A hundred meters and growing.
Magellan's Hell — Judgment of the Poison Giant.
This was not the same compound. The purple venom was acutely lethal — fast-acting, devastating in volume. The red was something else: a contact poison that spread from point of infection, that infiltrated whatever it touched and converted it, that no antidote in existence had ever been formulated to address. The stone beneath the skeleton's feet was actively dissolving. Any human body that contacted it would not die the way people die from ordinary poison.
Magellan looked up at his own construction and then at Momonosuke.
"These are the two prisoners you came for," he said. "I know who they are to Straw Hat Luffy. I won't let you have them."
The skeleton moved.
Momonosuke watched it coming.
"I'll remember your name, Magellan," he said. And there was something in his voice that wasn't quite admiration and wasn't quite anger — the register of someone filing information away for later, assessing not just the fight in front of them but the kind of person they were fighting. "Luffy-senpai fought you when he was still finding his feet. I want to understand what that cost him."
The changes that began in his body were not sudden. They were considered, deliberate — a controlled transformation rather than a desperate one. Scales rose through his skin in a spreading pattern, red-gold, each one catching the light of the poison skeleton's red glow. A tail extended from his spine and moved behind him with slow, independent rhythm. His hands restructured, fingers lengthening and strengthening, nails hardening into claws that could score steel without effort.
His silhouette changed. No longer fully human, not yet fully dragon — something in between, the Uo Uo no Mi (Fish-Fish Fruit), Model: Seiryu (Azure Dragon) expressing itself in partial form, the frame beneath his clothes now carrying the density and architecture of a Mythical Zoan mid-transition.
He stood there, half-dragon, watching the hundred-meter poison giant descend toward him, red venom dripping from every joint.
The battle between the Poison Dragon and the Red Dragon had only just begun.
