Chapter 64: I'll Definitely Poison You Someday

"Didn't expect the heart of this basin to look like this."

After flying out from the mist-shrouded valley, Xiao Yuan descended into the medicinal herb-filled basin where the herb-collecting team had previously passed.

Before he could land, Xiao Yixian pointed the way and guided him to fly directly into the depths of the basin.

"Hey, stop admiring the view—where's my Poison Scripture?"

Jumping down from Xiao Yuan's arms, Xiao Yixian pouted and asked.

"Heh, here you go."

Xiao Yuan chuckled and pulled out the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture, handing it to her.

Xiao Yixian eagerly snatched it from his hands and immediately unrolled it.

"It really is a poison compendium for configuring toxins!"

After a moment, a smile bloomed on her delicate face. With this, her self-defense capabilities would increase greatly.

"This place is perfect for cultivation!"

Feeling the rich natural energy in the valley, Xiao Yuan couldn't help but sigh in admiration.

"Hmph. This little valley is completely sealed off from the outside. Like the other one, it's covered in dense mist, but the energy here is much richer. And the place is full of medicinal herbs—perfect for studying this Poison Scripture!"

Xiao Yixian puffed up with pride, laughing sweetly.

"It really is a great spot. Thanks, this place will be very useful for me."

Xiao Yuan nodded and accepted the favor with a smile.

Truth be told, the real reason he flew here was because of this hidden gem of a location.

"There's a hut I built over there. We can stay in it for a while."

Xiao Yixian pointed toward a corner of the valley and smiled.

"Oh? You're letting me live with you?"

Glancing at the small hut, Xiao Yuan raised an eyebrow and teased as he looked at her smooth profile.

Hearing this, Xiao Yixian's face turned slightly red. Gritting her teeth, she huffed, "If you try anything funny, I'll poison you!"

"Heh, you'd better hope you really can poison me—otherwise you'll be in trouble."

Xiao Yuan spread his hands with a grin.

"Hmph! We'll see! I'm going to gather herbs. Do what you want!"

Knowing full well how hard it would be to poison Xiao Yuan, she left in a huff.

Watching her leave, Xiao Yuan's smile slowly faded and his brow furrowed slightly.

"The Calamity Poison Body, huh..."

Staring at her cheerful back, Xiao Yuan's expression grew complex.

He'd need to find another solution. Even with a Heavenly Flame, only Yao Lao might be able to figure out a way to deal with that unique constitution.

He simply didn't know enough yet. Though he was talented, that body wasn't his—it wasn't something he could study easily.

"Well, I've given her the scripture. Guess I'll take responsibility to the end."

Shaking away the thoughts, he turned toward the hut.

They'd be staying here for a while, so it was time to fix the place up.

By the time Xiao Yixian returned, Xiao Yuan had already upgraded the hut into a full wooden cabin.

This valley was full of herbs—and trees.

With his current strength, chopping trees was like slicing tofu.

Looking at the neat, sturdy cabin, Xiao Yixian tilted her head, slightly stunned.

He can build something like this too?

Though surprised, she didn't show much expression on her face.

"You can build cabins?"

"What's so hard about it? If my strength were higher, I could carve a mansion right out of the cliffside."

Xiao Yuan lifted the lid on the pot, checked the nearly-cooked food, and spoke as if it were nothing.

During those years when he couldn't cultivate or manage the family, he'd learned a whole lot of random skills.

With his talent, he picked up anything quickly.

"You even cooked?"

The aroma caught her off guard. Xiao Yixian was genuinely surprised now.

How did this guy cultivate? He was already a Five-Star Dou Zhe at his age and knew all these life skills?

"We haven't eaten in nearly a day. Aren't you hungry?"

Xiao Yuan raised an eyebrow as he added more firewood.

Now that he mentioned it, Xiao Yixian did feel a little hungry.

"I picked some mushrooms—perfect for soup."

She rubbed her empty stomach and held up a small bamboo basket filled with mushrooms of various shapes.

"Great."

Xiao Yuan nodded and helped her light another fire.

Evening fell, and dusk blanketed the sky.

The two of them had a surprisingly good meal.

Four dishes, one soup, and rice.

Xiao Yuan hadn't only brought dry rations—he'd also brought fresh ingredients. Stored in his ring, they hadn't spoiled at all.

"Here."

Xiao Yixian handed him a bowl of mushroom soup.

"Thanks."

Xiao Yuan accepted it and took a sip.

"How is it?"

Seeing him drink without hesitation, she smiled slightly and asked softly.

"Delicious! You're pretty good at this."

He smiled, praising her sincerely.

"You're not afraid I poisoned you this time?"

Her eyes curved like crescent moons, though she quickly composed herself and asked coolly.

"Heh, poison me if you want. It won't kill me anyway—and then you'll have to brew the antidote yourself."

Xiao Yuan took another sip with a grin.

"Hmph! If you're not afraid, what do you need antidotes for?"

Xiao Yixian pouted, cradling the wooden bowl Xiao Yuan had made and sipping her own soup with some disappointment.

"Digesting poison is troublesome. It's easier to just take the antidote."

Xiao Yuan spoke casually.

The Five Element Qi Vessels technique had enhanced his organs, giving him strong resistance to toxins. He might not be immune, but he could certainly detect if something was off.

"Hmph! Just wait. One day I'll create a poison strong enough to kill you!"

She glared at him fiercely, full of ambition.

"Alright, alright. I'll be waiting. But let's eat first. After this, we should give that senior a proper burial."

Xiao Yuan nodded lazily and added.

"Okay."

Xiao Yixian nodded as she took a bite of food.

"...You're not bad at cooking."

She muttered softly.

"Heh."

Xiao Yuan grinned with confidence.

That wasn't something he learned as a kid—he'd learned it in his previous life.
