Chapter 219 - [219] - Broadening Acting Paths

"JiaHui, you're still in school, aren't you?"

Lin BaoCheng asked Brigitte Lin (Guan ZhiLin).

"Yes, I'm in Form Three now," she replied.

"Then why are you entering the entertainment industry already?" Lin was puzzled. If she was still studying, it didn't make sense to join the industry so soon.

Brigitte stuck out her tongue playfully, embarrassed to answer.

Wu SiYuan explained: "JiaHui's grades aren't good. Her father thought that after she graduates, she should enter the entertainment industry. Joining the TV station now isn't to act in dramas yet, but to learn performance skills and meet people in the circle."

Lin chuckled and said to Brigitte: "Poor grades aren't something to be ashamed of. Mine weren't good either. But if you love what you do, and you learn acting well, with your beauty and talent, I believe you'll achieve something in this industry. If you become a superstar, your income and fame will far surpass that of an ordinary university graduate."

He was being honest. With her looks, Brigitte was born for the entertainment world. Even if her acting was average, she would still get roles as a "flower vase." If she honed her craft, she could become a true superstar.

"I'll definitely study acting seriously," Brigitte nodded repeatedly. Born into an acting family, with her father an award‑winning actor, she had been influenced since childhood and longed for the industry. Though her father arranged it, her own desire was equally strong.

Lin then said to Huang XiZhao: "Manager Huang, you go ahead with your work. I'll find you later."

"Alright, Mr. Lin," Huang replied, though he didn't leave immediately.

Wu SiYuan told Brigitte: "JiaHui, Mr. Lin has business. Go do your own things."

"Brother Lin, can I stay with you? I promise I'll behave," she pleaded, knowing Lin was the one who made decisions.

"As long as you don't mind later," Lin smiled. He didn't object to her tagging along.

"I won't," she said quickly. Spending more time with her idol was a joy.

"Let's go visit the Snake in the Eagle's Shadow set," Lin said to Wu, and the group headed there. Huang and the others went off to their own work.

At the set, filming was underway — a martial arts fight scene. Jackie Chan was battling extras with real kung fu, no stunt doubles.

One had to admit, Jackie was extremely dedicated. If he could do it himself, he refused to use doubles. Unlike stars decades later, who used stand‑ins for everything except close‑ups, and who would rest for minor scratches or rush to hospitals for small falls.

It was understandable. Later stars earned money too easily, many relying on looks and physique. Injuries meant financial losses.

"Mr. Lin, Manager Wu," Brigitte Lin (Qingxia) greeted them, then looked curiously at Guan ZhiLin holding Lin's arm.

Lin introduced: "Qingxia, this is Guan JiaHui, my fan." He then introduced Brigitte Lin to Guan.

"Hello, Miss Guan," Qingxia said politely.

"I've seen some of your films, Sister Qingxia," Guan replied. She had watched a few, but wasn't truly a fan.

"Cut! That's a wrap!"

Director Tsang ChiWei called out, then prepared for the next scene. Spotting Lin and Wu, he walked over.

"Mr. Lin, Manager Wu."

"Tsang Jai," Lin greeted. Though Tsang was older, the nickname was natural.

"Mr. Lin, you've returned from America?" Jackie Chan came over too, wiping sweat.

"Just yesterday," Lin nodded. "Dragon Jai, Tsang Jai, how's the collaboration?"

"Ah Long is hardworking, tough, and his acting is excellent," Tsang said. He knew Jackie's contract with the company, so he spoke positively — though Jackie truly was good.

"Brother Tsang is filming well too," Jackie added. He wasn't foolish enough to mention minor conflicts.

"Good, no problems then," Lin said. He knew their answers were perfunctory, so he didn't press further. After a few words, he let them continue filming.

Tsang and Jackie returned to work, while Lin and the others watched from the side.

After a while, Lin turned to Qingxia: "Qingxia, you've mostly acted in romance films. Have you thought about trying other genres, challenging different roles?"

"Other genres?" Qingxia was intrigued but hesitant. "I've never done that. I'm afraid I won't do well, and if the film loses money, it would be bad."

"Don't worry about profits. If you want, you should try. Only by stepping beyond romance films can you broaden your acting path. That will give you more opportunities in the future," Lin encouraged.

Qingxia hesitated, then nodded: "Since you say so, Mr. Lin, I'm willing to try." She was eager to branch out, but in Taiwan, studios had only offered her romance films, since they guaranteed box office. She had no choice.

Privately, she resolved that if her transition caused losses for Starshine Pictures, she would compensate by signing more films, ensuring profitable projects, even romance ones.

Lin didn't think that far. After watching a bit more, he prepared to leave.

Since he needed to meet Huang XiZhao, Qingxia left on her own. Wu called Guan away too, but not before she and Lin exchanged contact information.
