Satou stood near the cave entrance, his mind already working through what came next. The humans wouldn't stop hunting them. The forest was full of predators. Their supplies were nearly nothing. Seven wounded goblins needed care, and every hour out here exposed was an hour something could find them.
DING!
A translucent blue screen materialized in front of him.
[System Update: Devouring Skill Upgraded.][New Function Unlocked: Spatial Consumption][Effect: The user no longer needs to manually consume flesh. Upon activation, a spatial void will materialize to absorb target material instantly. All benefits of consumption are retained. No taste, texture, or visual discomfort.]
Satou read it three times.
"Wait," he muttered. "I don't have to eat things raw anymore?"
The relief that hit him was so powerful he nearly laughed. Iron Stomach meant he could digest anything without getting sick — but that had never made the experience anything less than revolting. The taste of raw flesh. The texture. The blood. He'd endured it because survival demanded it.
Not anymore.
"Finally," he whispered. A genuine smile crossed his face for the first time in what felt like days. "Thank whoever's listening."
DING!
[Level Up!][Current Level: 7 → 15][Bonus Skill Unlocked: Magicule Bestowal]
"Level fifteen?" Satou blinked. Between the ten goblins in the tunnels, the human soldiers and mages, and the three giant rats, the experience had piled up faster than he'd tracked. He focused on the new skill and a second screen expanded.
[Skill: Magicule Bestowal]Rank: UniqueType: Support / Evolution TriggerDescription: The user may bestow a True Name upon a monster or creature, triggering an evolutionary process fueled by the user's own mana. The named creature undergoes physical and magical enhancement, evolving into a higher-tier species. The strength of the evolution depends on the user's mana capacity and the creature's innate potential.Cost: 3 Mana per naming.Warning: Excessive naming without sufficient mana may result in mana exhaustion, unconsciousness, or death.
Satou stared at it.
"I can make them evolve just by giving them names," he said quietly. His hands trembled slightly. "That's — that's insane."
His mind immediately started working through the implications. Goblins were prey for almost everything out here. But if he could evolve even a handful of them into stronger forms — the survival calculation changed completely.
He pulled up his status screen.

Satou's eyes stopped on his mana. Fifteen total. Three per naming. Four available namings before he hit zero — and he needed to keep at least a small reserve in case something happened tonight.
'Four namings. Choose carefully. The wrong choices here could get people killed.'
His gaze moved to the interior of the cave where the surviving goblins huddled together in the dark. Twenty-five total. He couldn't name them all — not yet. But he could name the ones who mattered most. The ones whose strength would protect the rest.
He stood and raised his voice.
"Everyone listen up."
The cave went quiet. Goblins turned toward him — some curious, others exhausted, a few still openly hostile. Gob stood from where he'd been crouching beside a wounded warrior, his scarred face skeptical.
"What now, whelp?" Gob said. "We just got settled."
"I know," Satou said, moving to the center of the chamber. "But I've found something that can change how this goes for us. Something that makes us stronger."
That got attention. Even the wounded shifted, yellow eyes focusing.
"I have a skill," Satou continued. "One that lets me give True Names. When I do — you evolve. You become something more than you are now. Faster. Stronger. More capable."
Silence.
Then a lean scout missing half an ear laughed sharply. "Names? You think sounds will save us? Names don't mean anything."
Murmurs of agreement spread through the group.
"He's lost it."
"Battle stress. It does that."
Gob crossed his arms, expression unreadable. "Prove it."
Satou had expected this. These were goblins who'd survived through strength and practical thinking, not stories. He needed to show them, not tell them.
But before he could respond, four small figures pushed through the crowd.
All four of them.
Jessica and Kelvin came first, their small hands finding his. Goblin 1 and Goblin 2 followed a step behind — Goblin 1 with his arms crossed trying to look like he hadn't rushed over, Goblin 2 with her quiet eyes already watching Satou's face for whatever came next.
Jessica looked up at him with complete certainty. "I believe you, big brother."
"Me too," Kelvin said. "You've never lied to us."
Goblin 1 said nothing for a moment. Then, in his blunt way: "If you say it works, it works. Do me first."
Goblin 2 simply nodded once.
Satou's chest tightened. He crouched so he was level with all four of them.
"You four understand — this will change you. I don't know exactly how, but you won't come out the same. It might hurt."
"Will it hurt a lot?" Jessica asked, voice small.
"I don't know," Satou said honestly. "But it will make you strong enough to protect yourselves. And each other."
Jessica looked at Kelvin. Kelvin looked back. That silent thing passed between them that only people who'd grown up side by side could manage.
Then both of them nodded.
Goblin 1 was already nodding before they finished. Goblin 2 just kept watching Satou's face and held her nod for a beat longer than the others.
"Alright," Satou said. He stood and looked at the rest of the cave. "Watch. Then decide for yourselves."
He turned back to the four of them and placed a hand on Jessica's head first. Her hair was matted and dirty, her small body thin from weeks of cave food, but her eyes were bright.
He closed his eyes and reached inward for the skill.
[Activating: Magicule Bestowal][Select target for naming.]
He opened his eyes.
"Your name," he said, and his voice carried a weight it hadn't possessed before — the words themselves feeling like they were being pressed into something permanent — "will remain Jessica. A name given with my hope that you'll grow strong and brave enough to stand on your own."
The moment the name left him, something shifted in the air.
Mana — invisible to everyone else in the cave but clear to his own senses — began flowing out of his body in threads of blue-white light. Three full points. It felt like blood being drawn or breath being pulled steadily from his lungs. Not painful, but unmistakable.
The threads wrapped around Jessica and sank into her — her skin, her bones, deeper than that.
Jessica gasped, eyes going wide. "Big brother — I feel strange—"
"Don't fight it," Satou said, keeping his hand steady despite the drain. "Let it happen."
The mana threads intensified, spinning faster, weaving into a cocoon of light around her small form. Inside it her silhouette began to shift — growing taller, broader, more defined.
The light grew brighter until everyone in the cave was shielding their eyes.
