They were losing. Slowly. Inevitably.
But they were still fighting.

Satou carefully set Cassius and Sylvara down, his body protesting the sudden change after carrying them for so long. "Can you both stand?"
"Barely," Cassius admitted, his vampire exhaustion evident. "My mana is completely depleted. I can fight with just my rapier, I can manage."
"My wound has stopped bleeding," Sylvara said, testing her movement carefully. "I can fight. Won't be at full capacity, but I can kill humans."
