The screams had spread through the entire city now.
Cassius moved fast — vampire speed, full extension, covering ground that would take a human runner three minutes in under forty seconds. He didn't go toward Chronus directly. He wasn't suicidal enough for that, not yet. He went toward where people were screaming and that was where Chronus was and those two things were the same direction.
What he found in the residential district was what came after Chronus passed through a place.
He'd seen battlefield aftermath. Had processed crime scenes, assassination sites, the residue of significant magical combat. He had years of reference for what violence looked like after the fact.
This looked different.
