Selene's POV
The world swayed again.
Not gently, not like the dizziness that came with exhaustion, this was sharper, uglier, a blade twisting inside my skull. The red moon above the Obsidian Wastes pulsed in my vision like a living wound. My knees buckled, heat roaring through my body as Lucien's presence, his curse, his whisper sank its claws deeper beneath my skin.
"Selene!" Kael caught me before I hit the ground. His hands were warm on my arms, steady. Too steady. I could feel his panic beneath the surface, the way he fought to keep his voice level.
"I'm fine," I lied, breath trembling. "It's… just the heat."
A humorless sound left his throat. "The desert is freezing."
Right. It was.
I tried to answer, but the air cracked with another sharp whisper in my ear, Little vessel… you cannot outrun me.
I flinched violently. "Stop it," I hissed, pressing my hands against my ears as if that would silence him. "Get out. Get out..."
