There were two main ways of making pottery - using one's hands alone or using a pottery wheel to help shape the clay. For now they were sticking to using their hands since it was the simplest method.
But Serena planned to create the pottery wheel once it became more viable to make larger quantities of pottery. And when they were much more skilled at the artform.
For now they were using a small hand basket to shape the clay into small bowls. That way Serena could properly measure if the dry method worked in making good clay and if the firing process worked.
Then they could compare it to the wet method once that clay was complete, keeping everything the exact same size throughout the experiment. Of course, she wasn't just going to limit it to making bowls.
Once they had five bowls made, Serena let everyone do what they wanted with the extra clay. Creativity and testing out the waters would be a good way to gauge what worked and what didn't.
