Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Escape

People gathered around to stop the fire. Baki, Hansu Seong, and Minji watched the whole building burn from the sidelines.

Brrring! Brrring!

Hansu Seong's phone rang. He checked the caller ID. It read Park Jinchoel. Hansu Seong answered the call. Before he could say anything, Park Jinchoel asked from the other side, "Hey! Are you alright?! What about Minji?!"

Hansu replied, "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm with Minji, too. We just escaped. What about you? What happened?"

Jinchoel looked at the fallen bodies before him and said, "I just finished wrapping things up earlier. But these bastards won't open their mouths. They even killed themselves before I could ask anything."

Hansu Seong murmured, "...That means—"

Jinchoel completed his thought, "Yeah, they've been trained since they were young. You know what that means, don't you? We've started backtracking right away. We'll have results in ten minutes. I'll call you back." With that, Jinchoel ended the call.

Minji asked worriedly, "Ajusshi, what about my dad?! I couldn't reach him earlier. Do you know where he is? Did something go wrong?!"

Pfft! Hahahaha!

Both Hansu Seong and Baki couldn't help but laugh hearing Minji worry about Manager Kim. Hansu Seong explained, "Don't worry, Minji. I don't know how your dad appears to you, but he's famous in this industry."

After a few minutes, his phone rang again. He answered it. Jinchoel said from the other end, "It's North Korea. We backtracked to them. They prepared very systematically. This is a revenge case."

---

"Ajusshi! They're from North Korea?! What should we do?!" Minji asked, shocked.

Baki also asked, "Old man, why would someone from across the border want revenge?"

Hansu nodded. "There are many reasons. But for now, my job is to protect Minji. Baki, you should leave now before you get dragged into this mess."

Baki shook his head. "What are you saying, old man? I can't leave when it's just getting good!"

Hansu smiled. "Thanks. I'll contact a North Korean expert to handle the situation."

---

After a while, they went to a garage to hide from the enemies. But within a few minutes, the pursuers found them there too.

Looking at all the enemies, Minji was frightened.

"Ajusshi... This situation... Is Jinchoel Ajusshi coming...?"

Hansu Seong shook his head. "He said it'll take some time for him to arrive. It's alright, Minji. Just believe in me."

Seeing that Minji was frightened and that Hansu was focused on saving her rather than fighting the enemies, Baki said, "Old man, you take the girl with you. It'll be dangerous if you don't move now. I'll hold them back."

Hansu seemed reluctant, but seeing the assuring smile on Baki's face, he agreed. "Be careful, kid."

Baki nodded. The enemies rushed at them. Seeing that Hansu Seong was escaping with Minji, they tried to follow. But Baki dashed at them and tackled two enemies.

More enemies rushed at him. He grabbed the enemy at the front and performed a shoulder throw, smashing him into the others.

Three men fell backward and hit a parked car. Baki didn't stop. He moved forward as another man swung a steel pipe at his head.

Baki ducked under it and stepped in close. His fist shot up into the man's stomach, then he followed with a straight punch to the face. The man's head snapped back and he fell.

"Tch! It's no fun if you guys go down so easily!" Baki said.

Five more men surrounded him. They moved carefully, not rushing in like the others. They circled him, waiting for an opening.

One man moved on his left. It was a feint. The real attack came from behind—a man with a knife. Baki spun around with a back kick. His heel hit the man's chest and sent him flying into a concrete pillar.

Two men jumped at Baki from both sides at once. Baki leaped straight up, flipping backward in the air. Both men crashed into each other below him. As he landed, Baki immediately spun and delivered a roundhouse kick to one man's head. The man dropped.

The other man got up and threw a punch. Baki blocked it with his forearm and countered with a quick jab to the nose. Blood spurted out. Before the man could react, Baki grabbed his arm and hip-tossed him over his shoulder. The man slammed hard onto the concrete.

Three men were left. They looked at each other, then attacked together.

One came from the front with a punch. Baki slipped to the side and drove his elbow into the man's ribs. The second man tried to kick him. Baki caught the leg, swept the standing leg, and the man fell.

The third man grabbed Baki from behind, locking his arms. Baki jumped up and kicked off the wall behind him. The momentum flipped both of them backward. They crashed down with Baki on top. The man's grip loosened. Baki rolled forward and kicked the man in the face.

The first man came at him again. Baki ducked under a punch and got behind him. He wrapped his arm around the man's neck in a chokehold. The man struggled for a few seconds, then went limp. Baki let him drop.

The last standing man pulled out a knife and lunged forward. Baki sidestepped and grabbed the man's wrist with both hands. He twisted the arm and pulled the man forward while kicking his knee from behind. The man fell face-first. Baki stomped on his hand. The knife clattered away.

Baki stood up and looked around. Bodies lay on the floor. Suddenly a strong punch connected to his stomach, sending him crashing into a van.
