Chapter 142 - You Are a True Hero

With that, Wolverine's claws swiped towards Peter.

Peter flipped backward several times, creating distance, then sprinted up the building's wall, reaching a height of over ten meters: "Logan, why don't you think again, did the future really leave you with nothing?"

Wolverine couldn't follow Peter to attack, so he could only stand there, looking up at him, frustrated.

Of course, perhaps a crucial factor was that he didn't sense any hostility from Peter.

Wolverine didn't have Spider-Man's spider-sense, but he possessed a similar ability that could be called "beast instinct." This was an ability he developed through long-term combat on the battlefield, experiencing various dangerous battles.

"What the hell are you talking about? What future me?" But it was obvious he still didn't trust Peter.

Wolverine at this time had only recently returned to a peaceful life, and post-traumatic stress disorder made him distrustful of many things.

Peter felt like he was facing a lone wolf.

So, he patiently explained to Wolverine, from being possessed by his future self, to why he came to find Peter, and so on.

"Really?" Wolverine was still skeptical.

Peter nodded seriously: "Truer than true."

He pointed to Doctor Octopus's corpse not far behind Wolverine: "Look, that's who your claws killed. He's the enemy. If I were friends with him, why would I be reasoning with you here? Shouldn't I be taking the opportunity to stab you?"

Doctor Octopus's corpse: I should just rot in the ground. Why am I always being pointed at? I'd rather die than be humiliated!

"You do have a point," Wolverine thought, but from the fact that he retracted his claws, he had obviously reluctantly accepted Peter's explanation.

Then he turned and left.

"You're just leaving?" Peter leaped, jumping onto the wall in the direction Wolverine was going, pacing on the wall at a similar speed to Wolverine, keeping the two of them moving in sync.

Wolverine didn't even look up. "Are you asking me to stay for dinner?"

"Uh, I don't have any money," Peter thought about Amazing Spider-Man's financial situation and promptly declined. "But, you forgot your teammates are still in Washington D.C. fighting the enemy?"

"Teammates? I don't have any teammates," Wolverine was very solitary, quickening his pace as he walked forward, clearly not wanting to spend too much time with the annoying Peter.

"But the future you is extremely close with them!" Peter shouted. "And, from the fact that they entrusted you with such an important mission to this space-time, it shows you're the person they trust the most, and their only hope, their savior! You guys..."

"Shut up!" Wolverine popped his claws, glaring at Peter. "That's the future me, that's not me! I wouldn't inexplicably become teammates with a bunch of strangers! I won't have any teammates!"

With that, he retracted his claws and sped away.

Peter stood in place, watching Wolverine's solitary figure gradually disappear into the darkness, and suddenly shouted, "When winter comes, the lone wolf dies, the pack survives!"

"Get lost!" Wolverine's roar came from afar.

"Alright~" Peter readily agreed, no longer trying to persuade Wolverine.

He turned and went back into the power plant. He found that Captain Stacy and the others who had been turned into Lizard-Men had reverted to their original forms. However, due to the effects of the serum, they had overexerted themselves and were all still unconscious.

Peter untied Captain Stacy and took him to a rooftop, waking him up.

"Mr. Stacy, Mr. Stacy!"

Captain Stacy slowly woke up.

"Peter?"

"It's me," Peter took off his mask, "How do you feel?"

"A little weak, otherwise okay. What happened?" Captain Stacy reached up and rubbed his head, frowning.

Peter roughly explained the situation to him.

Then Peter hesitated, "Harry Osborn and Max Dillon..."

"You want to cure them, right?" Captain Stacy was indeed an old detective; he quickly guessed Peter's thoughts from his expression.

After knowing Peter's true identity, he had also investigated the cases of Dr. Connors, Green Goblin Harry, and Electro Max.

So, when Peter showed such an expression, he could roughly understand just by combining the situation and analyzing it.

Peter nodded.

"I think I might be able to try to cure them. Spider-Man also bears some responsibility for them ending up like this."

"You need to think carefully. They are criminals now, and they harbor great hostility towards you." Captain Stacy looked at Peter with a profound gaze.

Peter didn't hesitate for a moment, nodding his head. "I know. As for the consequences, I'll take responsibility!"

This was the decision Amazing Spider-Man and he had discussed earlier; Peter was simply relaying the message.

It was a good thing that Amazing Spider-Man wanted to make up for his mistakes.

However, he would also have to bear the consequences of being "soft-hearted."

"Then go ahead and do what you need to do," Captain Stacy raised his hand and patted Peter on the shoulder, as an elder would to a younger person.

Peter nodded, then spoke about what was happening on the other side.

Captain Stacy immediately became serious, struggling to sit up. "Go if you want to. I'll explain things to Gwen. As for what's happening here, leave it to me to handle the aftermath."

"Thank you, Mr. Stacy."

"It's me who should be thanking you, Mr. Parker, Spider-Man," Captain Stacy said solemnly. "You're a true hero, a superhero! In the past, I had so many misunderstandings about you. Perhaps the people of New York really need you."

Peter grinned.

Captain Stacy's recognition was not only important to the Amazing Spider-Man, but also a rare comfort to him.

The feeling of having one's efforts recognized was indeed very good.

"Go, Spider-Man," Captain Stacy extended his hand.

Peter reached out and shook his hand.

Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—

The sound of helicopter propellers spinning and the howling wind filled his ears.

Peter was currently sitting in a helicopter heading to Washington D.C.

This was a "special plane" arranged for him by Captain Stacy.

The direct distance from New York to Washington D.C. was about 300 kilometers. If he went by car, it would take several hours.

He'd probably arrive after the fighting was over.

But if he took a plane, even a helicopter, and flew directly, it would take only 70 minutes at the fastest.

He should still make it in time.

Peter was currently looking up what Professor X meant by "gift."

He could feel that Professor X had definitely done something to him, he just hadn't had time to check earlier.

And then, he quickly discovered a small point of light in his consciousness.
