Chapter 62 - 62. The Chairwoman's Reward

Oguri Cap had thought that her trainer would tell her today that she could resume training after a few more days of rest.

But after telling her he didn't recommend buying a house, he turned to instruct Brand New Shine, "Brand New Shine, I need you to take Oguri Cap to a hospital in Nagoya."

"Huh?! I'm not injured!" she raised her hand. "I don't feel anything wrong with me!"

"That's not for you to decide," he retorted without turning his head. "In any case, the Hokkaido Yushun Championship was a Graded Race. It's proper to have a physical check-up after returning."

"The examination fee will still be covered by me," he then reminded Brand New Shine.

The chestnut-haired logistics horse girl nodded vigorously. "I understand. I'll take Oguri to the best hospital in Nagoya!"

"That's a must," he paused. "I will decide Oguri Cap's race plan until the end of the year based on the results of this physical."

Her ears twitched, and she silently prayed that this examination would not reveal any hidden injuries she hadn't felt.

After watching them leave, he did not return to his desk but went to the academy's chairwoman's office with the race report he had written last night.

He knocked on the door, and after getting a response, he went in.

"Here comes the hero trainer of our Kasamatsu!" the chairwoman grinned, stood up from her seat, and proactively walked over to shake his hand. "I really didn't expect it. The deadline we agreed on was until the end of the year, but you completed it by the end of August. You're amazing, Zhou-kun."

He shook her hand, then let go, and also smiled. "I've completed my part of the agreement. Now it's up to you, Chairwoman."

"I know," she turned and sat back down. "From now on, the Tokai regional URA will not have any say in Oguri Cap's training and race schedule."

"However, I would still like you to tell me about her arrangements for the rest of the year," she looked up at the young trainer and continued.

He was already prepared for this. "I had her go for a physical today. If there are no problems, I'd like to choose the Chukyo Cup in the third week of October for her next race. After that, we'll focus on preparing for the Kasamatsu Young Grand Prix at the end of the year."

"No more expeditions?" the chairwoman was quite surprised. "I thought you would choose to go on another expedition."

"I plan to have her challenge Central's Graded Races next year. The only national local exchange Graded Race she can challenge at the end of the year is the All Japan Nisai Yushun at Kawasaki Racecourse," he shrugged. "At that time, the dirt horse girls of South Kanto will be much stronger than the Monbetsu horse girls in August. Of course I believe she can win, but the toll will be great."

In his opinion, she now had a G3 Graded Race win under her belt and didn't need to challenge a G2 to add to her credentials for the Central challenge.

"I understand what you mean," the chairwoman of Kasamatsu Tracen Academy said thoughtfully. "Then if you're challenging a Central Graded Race next year, the earliest would be in February."

"Yes, but there are no suitable Graded Races in February. I want to test her medium-distance aptitude and turf aptitude in her first challenge at Central," he casually made up an excuse. After all, with the Stat Viewer, how could he not know her situation?

The reason he said this was because the racecourses where the Graded Races she could enter in February next year were all right-handed tracks.

"I have to see how she adapts to a left-handed track." This was something the Stat Viewer didn't show, so he had already chosen her first challenge at Central—the G2 Graded Race, the Yayoi Sho, held at Tokyo Racecourse in early March, 2000 meters on turf.

This race was usually held at Nakayama Racecourse, but because the stands at Nakayama were being expanded this year and next, it had been temporarily moved to Tokyo Racecourse, changing from a right-handed to a left-handed race.

"It's a god-sent opportunity," he had sincerely praised the managers of Nakayama Racecourse when he had noticed this change.

The chairwoman now would not doubt the young man who had created a new history for Kasamatsu Tracen Academy.

Seeing this topic come to a close, she found a new one. "Then, are there any difficulties for you and Oguri Cap right now? The academy can try to help."

He was about to say "no," but just as he was about to speak, he suddenly thought of something.

So he changed the subject. "Actually, there is one thing."

"Oh?" her eyes lit up. "Please tell me. If the academy can help, it definitely will."

"It's like this," he shrugged. "She won the Hokkaido Yushun Championship and now has a sum of money. She plans to bring her mother to Kasamatsu, but the housing prices right now..."

He didn't need to say more. The chairwoman understood.

"What a coincidence," she smiled. "I happen to have an apartment in the west district of Nagoya that I want to rent out. The prices for both buying and renting are indeed excessive right now. Why don't you use mine?"

With that, without waiting for his response, she threw him a set of keys. "Go take a look first. If you're satisfied, we'll sign the contract. And I can add a clause to the rental contract: if she can win a G1 in her Twinkle Series career, for each G1, I'll waive all her rent. If she wins multiple, I'll just give her the apartment."

"Of course, on the condition that she doesn't transfer from Kasamatsu," the chairwoman laid out her conditions.

"That's a given," he readily agreed on her behalf. On the point of keeping her, he and the chairwoman were on the same side.

"She has made history for the academy. This is not only an honor for our academy, but the surrounding fans are also very proud," she continued after he had taken the keys. "So the academy plans to hold a celebration at Kasamatsu Racecourse. We'll need you and her to be there."

"When?" he didn't directly agree, but asked.

"Next week, on the 7th," she replied, and then handed him a car key. "By the way, I see you're still driving that Alto. It makes people think the academy's待遇 is not good. The academy has just purchased a few Toyota BE-1s. Consider this a reward from the academy for your victory in the Hokkaido Yushun."

"Then it would be impolite of me to refuse," he accepted the car key without any qualms. "I'll be returning to my office."

"Take care," she stood up and saw him out.

After he left, the chairwoman closed the door and let out a long breath. "It looks like they'll be staying at the academy until she retires."
