Davina's POV
By the time we touched down, Cooper had already drifted off. The lengthy journey had exhausted him completely, and his tiny frame was pressed against my side, gentle exhales tickling my arm. I gazed down at him with a tender smile, sweeping a stray curl away from his brow.
I despised having to rouse him, but we'd reached our destination.
Softly, I bent down and pressed my lips to his forehead. "Cooper," I murmured. "Sweetheart, we've arrived. Time to wake up."
Cooper shifted gradually, his eyebrows creasing before his lids slowly parted. For a heartbeat, he simply stared up at me, disoriented, trying to figure out his surroundings.
His drowsy gaze found mine, and understanding slowly crept across his features.
"Are you alright, sweetheart?" I asked gently, stroking my thumb along his cheek.
Cooper gave a small nod, still fighting off sleep. His tiny arms reached up toward me, that familiar signal that meant he wanted to be lifted.
