Louise's POV
Louise Jenkin remained motionless at the dinner table, her fingers loosely circling a teacup that had sat untouched for a while.
Her gaze wasn't focused on the cooling liquid. Instead, she studied her sons—Irvin and Barnaby—observing them in silence as they worked through their meals.
Barnaby was making conversation about something trivial, his tone cheerful as he attempted to break the heavy quiet that had settled over them. Irvin maintained his typical reserve, barely lifting his eyes from his plate while pushing food around without appetite.
Louise's attention drifted elsewhere. Her thoughts were too chaotic to concentrate on Barnaby's chatter.
How could she possibly tell Irvin?
How was she supposed to look her son in the eye and announce, "I'm considering hiring the woman who destroyed you and left you shattered"?
Her throat constricted.
Irvin had entrusted her with finding the ideal candidate for the position their company desperately required.
