"I didn't say I want our relationship to be strictly professional because I don't want to. I'm telling you that I don't want anything more with you specifically," I bluntly clarified.
"But I have a good background, we're close in age. Why can't you give me a chance?" She asked me.
My eyebrow twitched in annoyance.
"Miss Sommers, you are a beautiful and intelligent woman, but I am not interested. This is the first and last time we will be having this conversation, so drop it," I shut her down sternly.
Disappointment spread across her face.
"...Yes, sir," she reluctantly said, and then she quickly left the room. I shook my head in disapproval as she closed my office door behind her.
What had my father been telling her that she would boldly ask me like this? It almost felt like she felt entitled to my affection. Hopefully, this was the last time anything like this would occur.
It was awkward between us for the rest of the day after that.
