Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 (Area 4 part-5)

During the day, I avoided monsters that were alone, as it would not be profitable compared to the points obtained for killing groups of zombies.

Now we are in the only stable building in the area. While Lila sleeps, I draw "Scarlet Rose," load a third bullet into the chamber, close the revolver's cylinder, and store a third of my fear in the third bullet.

"Now I have three chances," I think, and then I holster the revolver again.

I look at my dagger. I have only been infusing my fear into the blade to make it sharper, but I still check it constantly so that I won't be taken by surprise if it breaks.

"System, how many fear points do I currently have?" I asked the system in my mind.

[Fear points available: 38.94]

"It's a job that's literally full of dirt, but the pay isn't bad," I think, as I keep my right hand on the hilt of my dagger, since this time the building isn't very safe.

The night passes and we begin to explore the central part of the city. I can't deny that Lila has been a great ally. I don't know how she's eliminating the zombies, but for now, the important thing is to get as many points as possible.

As we move forward, we see a zombie almost two meters tall in the distance. It's so fat that it looks like it's going to explode at any moment. Its skin is green with some black spots. It's a zombie that spits a poisonous acid that causes infection and a slow and painful death.

It's a monster classified as 3 skulls, but it's usually never alone, so the surrounding area is likely to be infested with ordinary zombies and some evolved zombies.

"I think I should try a 'scarlet rose' bullet on that thing," I think to myself as I put my left hand on the grip of the revolver.

-Lila, you should leave. This is going to get dangerous. -I said as I drew my red revolver.

-No, I'll be fine, you don't need to worry. -she replied, and shortly after, I heard her giggle.

"What the hell? I should... no, she'll kill me if I offend her." I stopped rambling and walked toward the fat, poisonous zombie, just as it turned its head in my direction...

Bang!

A loud bang makes my hand shake from the force with which the bullet was fired, blowing the zombie's head apart like a watermelon. It was fabulous; not even the zombie's neck remained after the shot.

The zombie falls backward, making a thud as it hits the ground.

Suddenly, I feel Lila's gaze, turn around, and she stares at me. But I don't have time to ask anything, because horrible zombies begin to emerge from the rubble. Most of the zombies were ordinary, and there were some long-armed zombies.

I holster my revolver and prepare to face the scene in front of me, which is worthy of an apocalypse.

I grip my dagger and carefully observe my surroundings. I inhale and exhale. This is what I was looking for: points of fear. I need to grow, and if I want to thrive in a world like this, I can't be overly patient, or I'll end up with a miserable life.

I run towards the ordinary zombies, this time not holding back on the amount of fear I use.

Both on the edge of my knife and in my own body, I use fear to quickly finish off all the ordinary zombies within my reach.

The rotten blood, flesh, and entrails of the zombies are scattered everywhere. I run and jump over the remains of a wall, then jump toward one of the long-armed zombies and cut off one of its arms, then its leg. I move away because the zombies are approaching from different directions.

I watch closely as the zombies approach, screaming or making other noises. When I locate the point in the group of zombies where there is less fear, I attack, wielding my dagger so I can escape the encirclement.

There were no zombies with monstrous cores in that part of the zombie siege that I managed to break through.

I move away quickly enough for them to follow me, I look at the dagger, the blade seems somewhat worn.

Meanwhile, another long-armed zombie attacks me. I dodge it, roll, and keep running until I can find the ideal structure to effectively face the zombies.

But I jump again, and something resembling what was once a Hell Bear tries to tear my body apart.

The claws of the zombie bear, over two meters tall, are stuck in the ground. One of the long-armed zombies passes in front of the zombie bear and is dismembered by its sharp claws.

The difficulty suddenly increased. That thing is a monster that usually has 3 or 4 skulls.

The bear chases me, but I manage to keep my distance by a narrow margin. I jump backwards while drawing "Scarlet Rose."

Bang!

The zombie bear staggers after a bullet blows a big hole between its eyes, but it keeps running.

Bang!

This time, the top of the bear's head explodes.

The bear keeps running and I jump to the side to dodge it. The bear ran until it crashed into some debris and fell.

"Apparently, it was only a little stronger than the poisonous zombie. It's a shame I used up my last two bullets, but the points make up for it," I think to myself as I continue running, putting "Scarlet Rose" back in its holster.
