Chapter 10 - Dane?

Ethan and the Medicine student were still in the Pharmacy Store, and it had already gotten to the point when they'd finally agree that there was no hope left.

The zombies had almost succeeded in breaking through, as the large aluminium door was just a few hits from being bashed away.

"Oh my God… we are gonna die," she said, her face already soaked in fear, trembling.

"No, we are not," Ethan said, his eyes glinting with intense seriousness as he walked towards the almost broken door.

With a deep sigh, he began attacking the zombies that had almost gotten through the entrance.

RARRRRR!

Rarrrr…!

[You have killed a Level 1 Zombie. +5 Boyfriend Credits gained.]

[You have killed a Level 1 Zombie. +5 Boyfriend Credits gained.]

The growls continued, and the fact that Ethan kept attacking gave them every reason to keep pushing.

His actions resulted in nothing but rage, and before he realised it, the zombies had already succeeded.

BANG!

Door bashed aside, Ethan stepped back with the very last strength he could gather, but then the zombies were already charging madly at him.

It would only take half a second before a handful of these zombies would meet up with him, and unfortunately, he needed more than a second to get back on his feet.

The Medicine student? She was still shivering in fear and uncertainty as she watched the horror that was about to happen.

It was at that moment that Ethan knew…

He might be dying today.

"Shit!"

It wasn't as if he wouldn't try to save himself… He did. But at the same time, his doubts of succeeding were way wider than the belief.

Just at that very moment when the zombies were about to pounce on him in bunches…

TARR! TARR! TARR! TARR! TARR!

TARR! TARR! TARR!

Ethan watched the zombies get their heads blown up as series of gunshots came from behind.

The incoming herd had crowded every corner, so Ethan had been unable to see who was taking the shots.

"Might be the rescue team. They've come to save us," the Medicine student said, her eyes brightening in delight.

TARR! TARR! TARR! TARR! TARR!

The gunshots continued, with every shot taking one zombie down, and within moments, they were all dead, and the person behind this was completely revealed.

There, standing and gasping, was a slim young lady with a cap. She was wearing an army uniform, her black shiny hair braided and stretched to her waist.

The first thing that captivated Ethan wasn't the fact that she had just saved them, but the fact that she was stunning.

"Gosh. She's a ten," he muttered while staring at her face, lost.

The Medicine student had already sat up and had approached Ethan, who was still lost on the lady.

"Ethan."

"Ethan?"

It was after he was called twice that Ethan got back to his right senses.

"Huh?" He turned to the Medicine student.

"She was asking us about how we got here," she said with a confused glare.

"Oh… Oh ummm… We came to get some antibiotics for a friend who got bitten by those zombies, and we got trapped in here," Ethan replied, his face still blunt.

The lady's tone darkened at that moment, hearing what Ethan had said.

They both didn't know why, but well, it would be a bit troublesome to start asking a stranger stupid questions.

She soon gave a nod, though with her pale look still traced.

"You better head back now. Roaming out here isn't safe," she said with a commanding tone, and Ethan, with amusement still in his eyes, gave the Medicine student a sign as they rushed out of the store.

"Thank you for saving our lives!" The girl said.

Ethan didn't say a word, but he rendered a nod before running past her.

The lady watched them sprint towards the alley, a pitiful look appearing on her face.

"Poor kids. They have no idea what they're dealing with," she muttered under her breath before turning away.

After all, she had only one concern in mind, and that was to find her brother.

"I hope you are still alive, brother," she sighed roughly.

She then turned west and shook her head.

"Checked," she muttered.

"East. Checked," she mused in frustration.

"South… I'm just coming from there," she sighed.

She had literally checked everywhere, and all she had been seeing was those walking corpses.

And then…

She faced north, exactly where the two youngsters had followed, and then a sudden realisation hit her.

"There are survivors in the campus, which means that might be actually where all the survivors are hiding," she said.

"Dane might be there," she added, as a slight smile of hope arrived on her cheeks.

Without wasting a second, she grabbed her rifle and dashed towards the alley, hoping to meet up with the students.

This could be the golden chance she needed to find the only family she has in this world.

"Gosh. I thought it was a rescue team or something. Saw just a single lady and I'm disappointed," the Medicine student said.

"Rescue team? Tsk. No one is coming for our rescue, sis. The apocalypse descended on the entire planet. I'm pretty sure the President is one of those crazy monsters right now," Ethan replied.

"Ah, stop it, Ethan. This is only happening in our university. Stop scaring me. I hope we'd get help soon enough," she objected with a serious tone.

Ethan decided not to say any more words to her, so he only nodded and continued walking.

Just as they were almost reaching the Professors' Lodge, they suddenly heard a voice calling from behind.

"Hey! Wait up!"

Ethan froze and turned at once, only to spot a familiar figure.

"That's…" The Medicine student couldn't finish the statement.

"The woman who just saved us. Right! Why the hell was she trailing us?" Ethan asked.

"Stop it. She might just want to help," the Medicine student said.

The lady walked over with hurried footsteps, and when she finally caught up with them, Ethan had to ask:

"Why are you trailing us?"

"Actually I'm not. I just needed to see if I can find someone around here," she said.

"Who's that?" The Medicine student asked.

"My brother. Dane. He is also a student in this university, and he's the reason I'm here. I really need to find him," she responded.

"Dane? We don't know who that is. We are a group of seven, and we have only two guys. Ethan and… well, the guy who got bit. I don't know his name. We never got to know our names while hiding in the Computer Science Academic Building," the Medicine student explained.

The lady nodded, her jaw almost dropped.

"Well at least I can come with you to see them, right?" After staying silent for a while, she asked.

The Medicine student looked at Ethan, who hesitated before giving a nod.

"Sure," with an almost hesitant look, Ethan replied.

They soon continued their walk towards the Lecturers' Lodge, taking only a few minutes before they reached the building.

The lady observed the building, her eyes filled with anticipation. She was smart enough to notice that it was clearly different from other buildings, making it certain that if there was any safe place in the campus, it must be around here.

"How sure are you that only your group resides here?" She asked.

"We checked everywhere before moving in. We are completely sure," Ethan said with a nod.

She didn't say any more words as they walked in.

Reaching the top floor where the group were, the first image they came across blew their minds.

Anna, Gracie, and Mella were standing around one spot, all frozen and focused on the image in front of them.

Below was the School Representative, who had a knife in her hand, gasping sharply with her eyes fixated on what came next…

A zombie.

Ethan rushed over, drenched in awe.

He didn't need to be told what had happened here, even though he hadn't expected it.

There, the guy who had gotten bit was lying lifeless… not as a human but as a zombie.

The military lady and the Medicine student came over in a rush as well.

"He started having severe fever, and his body started changing. Before we knew it, he…" Anna stammered.

"He turned into one of those monsters, and he tried to hurt us. I had to do what I did."

Helen had to complete the explanation, but then the drama didn't end there.

The military woman stepped forward with her eyes widened. Her strong, vibrant stance already shrunken the moment she had a good look at the dead zombie.

With a faint, sorrowful tone, she muttered:

"Dane?"
