Chapter 32
"One of ours was found dead this morning." Cain broke the silence between us. "They pulled his body from the waters just hours ago."
My hands stilled on the book I was reading. "What happened?"
"Throat was torn. Sliced from a clean sword attack." His jaw tightened. "He was a member of the Orders. Some are saying he was killed by a hunter. Others believe it was his wife."
"His wife?" I set the book down carefully, keeping my face blank.
Cain nodded. "They were both seen in the hours leading to his death, deep in argument."
My mind wandered back to Russell's last encounter with his wife. He'd been cheating on his wife for some time now. Was that why people believed she murdered him? If she had killed him, the reason was certainly valid.
"Couples quarrel and fight all the time. It's normal."
"That's just what I was thinking."
"What do you think?" I asked.
