Kadabra appeared, and Psybeam burst out. It struck Goldeen's back before it even had the chance to react.
The Water Pulse it had gathered collapsed, and Goldeen's body was blown back through the air. Suddenly, it realized it could no longer move.
It tried to flail, but Kadabra held it up with Confusion.
Kadabra then fired another Psybeam, hitting Goldeen's head. Even the psychic bind holding it wasn't enough to stop the force that sent it flying.
Goldeen splashed into the water. After the repeated attacks, its condition was terrible, and the most dangerous part was that it had fallen into confusion.
Kadabra used Teleport to land steadily on the mossy platform. It held another Psybeam in its hand but did not attack. Instead, it looked toward Daisy together with Gu Yuan.
"This round is my loss. I didn't expect you two to be this strong."
Understanding Gu Yuan's meaning, Daisy did not hesitate. She quickly recalled the confused Goldeen into its Poké Ball.
With Goldeen's condition, it could not dodge another Psybeam. If it was struck again, it would faint, so Daisy chose to withdraw it early.
"Now it's your turn, sweetheart. Go for it!"
Hearing Daisy's sweet, affectionate tone, Gu Yuan wondered if this really made Pokémon stronger. But he felt sure he would never be able to speak like that himself.
"Kadabra, use Teleport, then Psybeam!"
Like Goldeen before, Daisy's Starmie was also at the Junior Rank.
"Starmie, use Swift around you!"
As Kadabra vanished, Daisy immediately put Starmie on the defensive. Kadabra's earlier performance had left too deep of an impression on her.
Gu Yuan didn't try to make Kadabra take the Swift head-on. Instead, Kadabra appeared near Starmie.
"Kadabra, keep using Psybeam. Just wear it down."
Seeing how careful Daisy was, Gu Yuan didn't force an attack with Teleport. Instead, Kadabra stayed at range, using Psybeam again and again.
This made Daisy constantly wary of another sudden Teleport, unsure when Kadabra might strike from behind.
"Starmie, fight back with Psybeam!"
Two beams of multicolored light shot out and clashed in the air.
In raw power, Starmie was a little stronger. But the difference wasn't enough to overwhelm Kadabra, who could easily use its psychic powers to dodge.
The real problem was that Daisy didn't dare let Starmie rush in. If Kadabra found an opening with Teleport, it could counter at any moment. The battle fell into a deadlock.
Watching Kadabra trade Psybeam with her Starmie again and again, Daisy frowned. Kadabra was only Gu Yuan's first Pokémon, while Starmie was already her second. If this dragged on, it would not end in her favor.
"Starmie, use Surf and push forward!"
After another clash, Daisy saw that Kadabra was tired, but she couldn't wait any longer. She launched a direct attack.
The water surged and formed into a huge wave rushing toward Kadabra.
"Kadabra, use Teleport. Be ready to use it again right after."
The wave crashed down, but Kadabra disappeared before it landed.
"Now, Starmie! Use Psychic!"
After evolving, Starmie became a Water- and Psychic-type and could learn many Psychic moves, including Psybeam and Psychic.
As Kadabra reappeared, the waiting Starmie attacked instantly.
The next second, a red beam of light shot out, striking Kadabra first and pulling it back into its Poké Ball.
After such a long fight, Kadabra was exhausted. Gu Yuan would not force it to keep battling.
"Come out, Eevee. Use Baby-Doll Eyes!"
Switching quickly, Gu Yuan launched his second round.
Before Starmie could react, Eevee's Baby-Doll Eyes had already taken effect.
Gu Yuan had chosen the perfect spot to release it, and Starmie was caught within range.
"Don't let it distract you, Starmie! Use Psychic now!"
Daisy's call snapped Starmie back to focus.
"Eevee, use Charm!"
Starmie tried to prepare its attack, but it couldn't help being caught by Eevee's adorable look. Even Daisy herself was distracted by its cuteness.
In that moment, Gu Yuan gave his command. Eevee unleashed Shadow Ball.
Shadow Ball was super effective against Starmie. On top of that, Eevee's earlier Baby-Doll Eyes had lowered its Special Defense, making the attack hit even harder.
"Hold on, Starmie! Fight back with Psychic!"
"Eevee, keep using Charm!"
The pain broke through Starmie's focus. It attacked, but it couldn't use its full strength.
Shadow Ball crashed into Psychic, shattering it, then exploded just in front of Starmie.
"Go on, Eevee! Chase with Shadow Ball!"
"Starmie, use Surf, then follow with Hydro Pump!"
Another Shadow Ball launched forward. Starmie moved fast under Daisy's command, riding a wave and rushing forward.
But as the wave clashed with the Shadow Ball, the energy exploded and broke the water apart.
Leaping high, Starmie used the last of its strength to fire Hydro Pump.
"Eevee, Shadow Ball!"
The two moves collided in midair. Starmie's attack had more power, but it couldn't overpower Eevee's completely.
The clash ended with Eevee's Shadow Ball breaking first. Hydro Pump struck Eevee, but Starmie collapsed from exhaustion at the same time.
Even before fighting Eevee, Starmie had already lost a lot of energy. After being hit by multiple Shadow Balls, then using Hydro Pump, it could no longer hold on.
"Come back, Starmie. It's up to you now, my last card!"
She recalled Starmie and sent out her final Pokémon.
"Eevee, use Baby-Doll Eyes!"
"Dewgong, use Icy Wind!"
The battle started again. Dewgong's willpower was stronger than Starmie's, and even under Baby-Doll Eyes, it attacked immediately. It was at the Intermediate Rank, far beyond Daisy's Starmie.
But Gu Yuan didn't mind. Eevee's role was the same as Kadabra's, to wear down the opponent's strength.
