Stephanie's POV
City lights smeared past the window. Just blobs of yellow and white. My heart was still going thump-thump-thump in my chest from the fight. That scared feeling for Jolina? Yeah, it was gone. Now I was just mad. Cold and hard mad. Someone messed with my kid. Big mistake. Huge.
First stop was the hotel. I passed a sleepy Jolina to the nanny. "She already ate," I mumbled, shoving extra cash into the woman's hand. She knew the drill. No questions.
Then I was back in the car. Headed for the bad part of town. Where the buildings are just skeletons with broken windows. My warehouse was there. Looked like every other dump. But it was my dump. I pulled around back, tires crunching on glass. Turned the engine off.
Silence.
I sat there for a minute. Just breathing. Letting the "Mom" part of me go to sleep. Time for the Sparrow to wake up.
Pop. The trunk opened.
