Stephanie's POV
The grin on my face felt real for once. Not the fake one I use when people are watching. This one came from way down deep. My laptop screen showed a little cartoon flag waving. It looked silly, but it meant I'd done something big. I couldn't remember the last time I had that much fun. I wish I see the look on Armstrong's face when he realized I was leading him on.
"Mama, why are you smiling like that?" Jolina's voice came from the sofa. She was just a lump under the blanket, only her eyes and the top of her head showing.
"Oh, nothing much, baby," I said, my voice easy. "I just won a game, is all."
She made a little "hmm" sound. The kind that means she's not really paying attention. I could hear the soft tap-tap-tap of her fingers on her iPad. Probably building something in that game with the blocks.
