Cane's POV
I stood in the driveway with my heart in my throat, arms hanging useless at my sides. I couldn't stand waiting for her inside. Maybe if i stood outside, she'd come faster.
The sun was burning the back of my neck, but I was cold. Ice cold. Every second without my kids felt like someone was ripping pieces off me.
"Come on, Stephanie. Please, hurry up and come back here ."
Then I heard her engine before I saw the car.
It came roaring around the corner like hell itself was chasing her. Tires screeched. Gravel flew. She didn't brake until the last possible second, then spun the car so hard it almost flipped.
The door flew open. She jumped out, hair wild, eyes red and crazy.
She ran inside without a word, not even sparing me a glance. I opened my mouth to call her back but nothing came out. Thirty seconds later or maybe less, She came storming back out. And my heart stopped dead.
