Cane's POV
I had never done anything as fast as I rowed that boat. The boat hit the hotel dock with a soft thud, and I was already standing, heart hammering like I'd promised myself I would be patient, wait, give her time, but the second I pulled her up from the cushions and her body brushed mine, every good intention went straight out the window.
She laughed, low and sweet, when I caught her waist before she could step onto the pier. "Cane, we're still outside—"
I didn't let her finish. I kissed her, hard, right there under the little lamps that lined the walkway. My hands slid into her hair, tilting her face up to me, and she made that tiny surprised sound that always drives me crazy. Her lips opened under mine, warm and soft, tasting like the wine we didn't drink and the night air. I couldn't get enough. My tongue found hers and she kissed me back just as hungry, fingers curling into my shirt.
