The black sedan disappeared into the morning traffic as quietly as it had arrived.
Inside Noah's hospital room, no one knew they had just been watched.
Matthew rolled up the city map and slipped it back into the folder.
"We're assigning surveillance to every building in the abandoned district," he said. "Nobody goes in until we know exactly what we're dealing with."
Leon nodded in agreement.
"If whoever called Noah wants us there, they'll be expecting us to rush."
"And we won't."
Vinny leaned back in his chair.
"So... we're actually being patient?"
Matthew looked at him.
"For once."
"I don't like it."
"No one asked."
The room erupted into soft laughter before settling into a comfortable silence again.
Noah shifted slightly against his pillows before immediately regretting it. A sharp pain spread through his side, causing him to inhale quietly.
Aiden immediately noticed at once.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine."
