Chapter 34 - Turning point, Chapter 34

Soon after the chief finished word spread throughout the shelter, and having the people carry it from one to another, it was more believable that way, people started digging inside their mountain houses small holes, they only made ones for their own children and women

While one was helping, he asked his friend "do you think the chief is saying the truth? I mean we just discovered that everything we ever knew was a lie"

Diggin underneath the bed he replied "If it is indeed true, he will live another day"

"And if it is not?" said the first

The man dug silently for a moment, and without stopping he said "Then we will need a new"

The air in the shelter was stiff, some wanted to believe it, others already did, most thought it just was another lie, but regardless they just continued, knowing that either way they aren't going to lose much, their time and the false king at best, and at worse some lives will have their blood spilled

Inside the chief's tent Baro sat down with whom he trusted, thinking about he they will move forward with their plans

"How will do what you wished? Surely you did not come forward to the people with what you said while not having a plan" said Ramo

The chief replied "the streets shall be dark by my order, but there will be fire, all that was old will turn into dust, we will take who ever lives and rais an obeying new generation, filled with hate pointed at the kingdom"

"If it is fire that we will use, then we need them to stay still, don't we?" said Pharam

The chief hearing him thought for a second before coming with a solution "I know just the right plan to do so"

At night the chief gathered as much as he could, this time there was much more awaiting his words unlike how many gathered in the morning

Standing in front of them, although this time he had only his bodyguard by his side

Whispers danced amongst the crowd, the chief liked how he swayed their eyes and spoke

"My people! We know that they will be reaching us in 3 days walk or less, that we are not sure of, I need you to stay put inside, do not waste energy, we will lure them inside our range and strike them down"

"When will you arme us?" a voice from the crowd shouted

"You don't expect us to fight with forks and kitchen knives" another spoke

The silent crowd went into their own talk, each spouting his own thoughts out with no one to listen

"My people!! My people!" said the chief Baro trying to get back the attention

"I am deeply sorry to inform you that I can't do such a thing, we barley have enough to the guards upon the walls" he continued with, a huge commotion was about to rapture before he said

"But! I have come to you, with a plan" they started listening again

"For the days and nights to come, you are to stay still, fortifying your houses and protecting your own, we will hold our grounds, the guards of the walls will make sure you are taking every meal at its time"

They looked at each other in confusion, new talks, whispers, and theories were about to sprout, but the chief gave them the last point that shut down those ideas

"And here this, what ever you take from the battle that will be, shall be your own and we will have no hand in it"

The crowd got excited, they rushed back, closing the doors from the inside, making sure the holes they had

The grounds were silent, some parents did not get enough sleep, some were worried, kept awake by their own thoughts, a few wanted the blood to come sooner, others tried to calm their children for the night

A child told his mother "What if they break our door?" hiding under the blanket

"If they do, your father will yell at them and scare them away, so the guards and come and imprison them" the mother replied as the child looked at his father

He was sitting in the dark corner, only a candle of light to keep him visible, his back on the wall, by his left the door was closed tight with tables and chairs, he was staring at his reflection in the small knife he held, moving it from side to side

In other houses some were sharpening what ever they had, from gardening tools, to kitchen knives, forks wooden spears, what ever a hand could hold

No guard stood in the streets, the wall was their top priority as they tried building higher and higher, making the wall thicker and sturdier,

Once again, the chief's tent was full

"I have a suggestion, for what we should start with" said Pharam

The room stared at him

"I think we should burn the herb storage first" said Pharam

"What? Are you crazy, and how will be heal the wounded?" said Ramo

"Wea are going to abandon this place anyways, aren't we? We can barley hold the supplies with whatever numbers we will have left, and on our way, we can harvest more" replied Pharam, but he started coldly at Ramo, Ramo shut his mouth, it looked as if someone ripped his tongue out

"I agree with what Pharam said "replied the chief

"Then we need to distribute the roles" said Pharam

"What do you mean by that? What roles are there for us to distribute," said the chief

"We can't have people ask about where were we? I will be joining the wall," said Pharam

"Do whatever you want, I will be taking care of the plan," said the chief

"Not today," replied Pharam "The first night people will be nervous, over protective, they will be incepting every detail"

"Then we will delay it" said Ramo as he stood up, "I will be roaming the streets making sure no eyes glance outside destroying what we planned"

"I am, pleased that you've come to your senses, knowing that I only wish for the good of the people" said the chief as he stood up "Then we will be starting the plan, tomorrow when moon towers the highest "

"Before that, I will be leaving Noor with my daughter, we cant afford to lose the last of the bloodline amidst the chaos" Baro said lastly

Pharam reached the wall made of wood and stone, "What brought our eyes to the wall in the midst of the night" said the one who was in charge of them while smiling, he was a little old, one who seems in his 40s, leaning on his shovel letting the rest continue digging

"The chief ordered me to" said Pharam

"And here I thought you would walk down to us by yourself" replied the old man, turning around to continue his work leaving Pharam to stare at his back

"Ser? What can I do?" said Pharam

"Don't ser me, my name is Kamir, and you can go do whatever you like, join some who needs help lifting weights or something," said the old man

¨Pharam went by walking up the stairs, they were built inside the wall itself, he reached the top to see people making towers for the archers

Someone saw him standing still so he approached

"You are the famous expeditioner, although we are not that short on hands seeing that most of the guards are focused here," said the man

"You can go and help them raise the towers up" as he left Pharam

He picked some rocks and started walking them up the tower, one after another, the stairs were full every single time

The night continues to reign supreme, and at one moment the stairs went empty, looking behind him he was alone, he stared at the rock for some time

"Crack!" the sound echoed followed by a scream

In the nurse's house the door was being knocked violently, she opened in a rush to see Kamir with some guard holding Pharam, his leg dripping with blood, by the side stood Noor who was guarding here doorstep

Shocked she let them inside

"What happened!" Fara said

"This lucky guy got a rock to the leg on his first day, I guess he will be of no use in battle or in construction," said Kamir

"Just go, augh!!, just go to your work, I will be taking care of myself here" said Pharam as he tried to stand up from the bed

"No, you will not," said Fara as she pushed him down to lay on his back "You may leave to your work gentleman, I will be taking of him"

They left looking at him one last time

Fara stitched his open wound as he screamed in pain, biting in whatever she gave him, until she finished

"Stay here, I will be going to the storage to give you some painkilling herbs" Fara said leaving

Ramo saw he leave so he stepped inside silently, he and Pharam stared at each other, before he showed he some keys he had and went back outside

The morning came, people were handed food inside their houses, Fara eating alongside Pharam they chatted

"Do you think it is true, I mean the invasion" Fara said

"Do you not trust your own father?" said Pharam eating from the bowl with a spoon of wood

"I don't know what to trust anymore, I don't even trust my blood's legitimacy, you know, with these rumours going around" Fara replied

"Trust is rare these days, it is so rare it became nothing more than a word anyone can use," Pharam replied staring at the soup he held

The sun fell slowly under the land, switching sides with the moon, the chief came inside the nurse's room where Pharam laid down while she checked his injuries cleaning the blood off and stitching whatever raptured, walking behind him his bodyguard, Noor

"How is our legless warrior," said the chief

"Stop annoying the injured father" said Fara

"Me? Annoy him? I am here to check on him, I wasn't able to for most of the day" said the chief as he sat down

"Wouldn't my daughter let us alone to chat for a moment," said the chief

"Your daughter is busy with her patient; you can either speak here or wait it off" Fara replied

The chief stared at Pharam as if wanting to pay attention to what lays between the lines, they traded looks before the chief stood up and left saying

"I wanted to check if my daughter's guard can protect the both of you" staring at Noor he left

The night started and pain grow larger inside of Pharam's leg, he screamed and shouted in agony

"What is it? Do feel the pain inside the wound or throughout the leg" Fara said Worried

"Pain killers, bring me some" as he calmed down taking deep breathes

"I will, just, hang on" she said as she wanted to leave

"You know it is dangerous outside" said Pharam as he held her hand to stop, he stared at Noor wanting him to volunteer

"Sigh, describe them" said Noor to Fara

"Ok, Ummm, you will be finding them on your left, inside the stone made jar" Fara replied

Noor picked his sword and walked outside, stepping in the ark eyes stared at him following behind very quietly, he glanced back but seeing nothing he felt it all to be inside his brain

The moment he opened the door of the herb storage, a blow to the back of his head sent him to his knees, there he slipped into unconsciousness

Sarom sitting in the cold lonely cell heard the sound of its metal bars moving, the door was left open and no one was in sight

Walking across the streets, Baro came to the closed storage of the herbs holding a fire, looking at his sides there was no soul in sight, he lowered it down as it caught on fire, some guards from his choosing were just about to do the same

"Fire!!! They are lighting your houses on fire, wake up people" a scream travelled across the shelter, the chief staring at the source he noticed it to be Sarom, his hands still chained

"How did you leave, Guards! Apprehend him" said the chief, but it was too late, some people woke up and broke out of there houses to see the chief leading the terrorist attack

Everyone woke one another until the whole camp came to the scene

Fara heard the noise of the people shouting so she stood up

"Stay here I will be checking the outside" said Fara to Pharam who was fully awake, eh just stared at her without replying as she left

The people were shouting at the chief

"Explain yourself!" one said

"First you start lying, now you wish to kill us" another continued

The chief raising his hands as his guards circled him trying to protect him from the crowd

"Calm down my people, this is all the schemes of criminals like him who are working with our enemies to bring us down" as he pointed at Sarom chained

The people started whispering, the king grinned again feeling he has a chance, Sarom noticing it his eyes boiled in anger as he wanted to speak but the king pointed with a smile in the other direction

There Ramo was walking through the crowds as they moved out the way

"You all know the trusted warrior Ramo, he will provide the truth," said the chief

Inside the storage smoke started filling the air, Noor waking up noticed it, as he tried to open the door, he was locked inside, more smoke came in making him cough as hit the door with his blad I unsheathed

"Help!" he yelled over and over

Fara walking by the crowd she got near the storage, amongst the chaos and loud noises she faintly heard his scream's, realising Noor was locked inside she brought a bucket of water pouring it on the door, a meaningless act

As the crowd and the chief stood silent, Sarom watched in anger glaring at Ramo

"The chief Baro... is a Lier" Ramo said, both the chief and Sarom were shocked, more shocked the crowd, Ramo pointed behind the chief where the fire was, the people stared at what he was pointing at

Fara was yelling and pouring water from the Well

"Somebody, help me stop it" they looked at here in confusion,

"The herbs are a lost cause, what I she seeking with this act" one said

From the door a hand broke out, disparately trying t leave, its skin joined the melting clothes dripping like honey on the stoney grounds

They saw the face and heard the voice for the first time

Noor was screaming and crying out of pain, they saw him for a moment, but when they tried to act and help Fara, the roof fell down, leaving fire as the only thing to e moving,

Noor was burned and crashed to death, Fara fell a bit far away, as she wanted to stand up a hand held her by the hair taking her hostage

It was her own father, holding a knife at her neck

Men women and children watched I shock, Jason standing from a far not knowing what is even happening

"Nobody moves! I am not afraid to spill more blood," said the chief

"Dad? What are you--- augh" said Fara as he held her by the hair and dragged her away

"I will be leaving with her" he said, no one wanted to step forward to be the cause of her death

He spoke in her ear as he took her "You brought me disgrace throughout the years, If I had a boy heir I would have threw you out already, but there is nothing to do now"

Two legs moving forward, one limping and the other is walking normally towards the chief from behind, while in front of him the crowd stood shocked

Baro dragged her more, and said" Get married or don't I do not care, as long as you bring an heir, even if you shall marry a slave, a Varish or a Kazar,"

Silent steps from behind, Thud… Drug… Thud… Drug…

"The blood shall live on, it shall spread through out mankind, that is the first king's holly words, I don't care who gives you the child as long as you---"

A stabbing sound followed by blood spilling down, it pierced through the back of the chief and through his daughter's, going throw both hearts

Pharam with a cold gaze was the one who held the sword

"You—" said the chief before the sword twisted through both of them

They fell down cold, silence, shock, confusion and fear

Pharam spoke blood falling off of his blade

"He is no true king, we need to royal blood to chose for us where to live and when to die, we shall make those choices"

There he stood, his leg dripping in his own, his blade dripping in another's, the sun started to shine as a new age began, where ancient blood and rules can no longer drown them in fear
