Chapter 16 - Gomerai

But Xers's consciousness hadn't yet faded.Suddenly, flashes of light burst through his vision. Something was wrong. His eyes shot open again—he was still in the real world. The rain was still falling, and he was standing outside… looking down at his own corpse.

As Xers stared at his lifeless body, a green and white light suddenly flared behind him. From within that light, two figures emerged—resembling holy guards made of radiant white energy—and beside them stood a woman whose entire presence glowed in shades of violet.

Her golden hair flowed down to the ground, her sapphire-blue eyes gleamed like crystals, and in her hand, she held a sword glowing with a deep purple hue. Her tall, graceful figure emanated both beauty and power.

She stepped forward and spoke to Xers.

"I am the spirit of the Celestial Dragon that has lived for millions of years, Xers. I am your savior."

Xers, unable to comprehend what was happening, instinctively stepped back. But the white light surrounding him began to close in.

"Let yourself go, Xers. Surrender yourself to the arms of Heaven."

"W–Who are you?! What's happening to me?! Why can I see my own body?!"

"My name is Gomerai. You are destined to save this world, Xers. You will bring glory to the Thend bloodline. Now, surrender yourself to Heaven's embrace."

Xers hesitated. Even if he refused, he was already on the brink of death. At least if he accepted, he might live again. He closed his eyes, lifted his head toward the sky, and waited.

Gomerai thrust her violet sword into Xers's abdomen. The purple energy that had resided within him for years was, in truth, Gomerai's own. The glowing violet light spread through his veins, filling him with an indescribable serenity instead of pain.

He opened his eyes and looked down at his stomach. There was no agony—only peace. He turned to see his old corpse on the ground. His shattered mask had been replaced with a new one—shaped like a demon's face, but colored violet.

Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced his head like a nail being driven in.Then Gomerai spoke again.

"I am your mask now, Xers. From this moment, we will live this life together. I will grant you all the power you need to save this world. You are now the angel of light that walks upon this earth."

The white light surrounding him flickered out.Xers collapsed for a second time. When he awoke, he was back where his body had fallen. The rain still poured, mixing with the rubble and turning to mud. He rose to his feet—his cuts, bruises, and fractures were all gone.

Without realizing it, he shouted, "Gomerai!"

From the ruins, a colossal violet dragon—nearly forty meters tall—emerged. At the same time, a sword appeared in Xers's hand—the same one Gomerai had wielded. The power radiating from him shook the ground like an earthquake, catching Sabre's attention.

"W–What's happening?! Is this… an earthquake?!"

"No, Commander! Look over there, inside the rubble! Do you see what I see?!"

Sabre and his sorcerer both froze at the sight of the massive dragon.

"W–What the hell is that?!"

"It's coming right at us, Commander!"

"You're right! EVERYONE, TAKE COVER!!"

Xers rode atop the dragon as it soared back into the battlefield.Sabre's eyes widened in disbelief.

"X–XERS?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!"

Xers leapt down from the dragon, landing in front of him.

"Y–You?! You were dead! How—?!"

"Not yet, you bastard!"

Xers slashed his sword, striking Sabre with immense force and sending him flying several meters away.

"H–How is he still alive?! I need to do something—Sakuran Kriega!"

Sabre donned his mask once more, and the two clashed again.

But Xers had become far stronger and faster—so much that Sabre couldn't even read his movements, barely able to follow him with his eyes. To onlookers, Xers was nothing more than a blur of violet light.

In a flash, Xers moved behind Sabre and sliced off his arm. The limb hit the ground as Sabre froze in disbelief.

"M–My arm?! N–No! At this rate, I'll die! I need to use time slow—now!"

"Unleash Kri—"

Before he could finish, Xers lunged forward, slamming him into a wall.

"H–How…?! He's this fast and strong without even using G-Technic or Ghost Step?! I wasn't lying—his hidden potential is real!"

A thought sparked in Sabre's mind."I must use time slow! I'll distract him first. Yes—that'll work!"

He launched an X-shaped slash toward the debris. Dust exploded into the air, obscuring everything from view. Xers dodged instantly.

"Unleash Kriega!"

Time slowed.

"Now come, Xers! Let's see how powerful you really are!"

Sabre charged forward through the haze, sword raised high, certain his blow would land. But Xers sidestepped it as if time hadn't changed at all. Sabre's eyes widened in shock.

The truth was that Xers had accelerated the vibration of atoms around his body to extreme levels, allowing him to move almost independently of Sabre's temporal distortion. The slow field barely affected him—it merely balanced their speeds.

Xers grabbed Sabre's sword arm with one hand, and with the other, he slashed from his chest down to his abdomen, creating a deep gash.Time resumed. Sabre collapsed to the ground, gasping.

"H–How…?! N–No! I am SABRE! I SURVIVED DEATH ITSELF! HOW CAN SOMEONE LIKE YOU DEFEAT ME?! STAND UP, SABRE! STAND UP! ANGELS—GRANT ME LIFE ONCE MORE! PLEASE!"

A fiery portal opened beside him—its flames roaring like the depths of hell. From it emerged Sakuran Kriega and several hellish guards.

"Your time is up, Sabre. You've already used the second chance we gave you. You made a pact with Hell—and now, there is no escape. The flames await you."

"N–NO! WAIT! I CAN STILL FIGHT!"

The guards seized Sabre's corpse, dragging him toward the burning portal.

"S–SAKURAN KRIEGA! WAIT FOR ME! SLOW TIME! SLOW IT! NOOO! NOOOOOOO!!"

Sakuran Kriega vanished without a word, and Sabre was consumed by the flames of Hell. His body in the mortal realm was nothing more than an empty shell.

Xers walked over to his fallen enemy, kneeling beside him.

"Down there… you'll face suffering beyond imagination."

Then he turned and vanished into the night.

Soon after, he joined under Ranshi's command—only to surrender himself to Kurotsume. Ranshi's lands were absorbed into Kurotsume's domain, making it the largest clan in Shadowia. Xers told them everything that had happened, earning their trust and a position of prestige within Kurotsume.

Meanwhile, Hanken had managed to evade the other sorcerers and reunited with Xers a day later. When Xers told him everything, Hanken was in disbelief.

"Then a woman appeared—and she said her name was Gomerai."

"I can't believe this, man! That's… that's a miracle!"

"Yeah… it really is. But for now, let's just enjoy the moment. Looks like we won't be in trouble for a while. Feels like my life finally turned around."
