Chapter 20 - chapter 19

By the time Leela woke up I had already piloted the ship halfway to earth. I knew she wasn't hurt or shot, but just exhausted so I let her rest in the medical bay. We knew this was going to require a full debrief and a message to the doop to prevent any ships from going to cannibalon from here on out since they're in the middle of an active civil war.

Meanwhile I think its time for me to start on my next project, the sewer is doing good, and im all out of different cyberware to create (I'm going to leave that to the rest of the development team.) my political capital is growing, and i haven't changed the world in a couple of days so I think I know the perfect way to do it.

See I finally figured out how dark matter engines work. Rather than using standing technology to convert pure energy into mass and negative mass, they use dark matter, which was confusing me until I stopped thinking off it like the dark matter of our time. Dark matter isn't combustable its consumable. When it explodes all that's happening is the energy it hold being turned into pure force. It looks like an explosion but it's not.

Instead, I started thinking of it like element zero from mass effect and everything finally made sense to me. Dark matter isn't really dark matter at all. Its consumable element zero. This led me to the obvious conclusion that I could make humans a biotic species. As for working with technology it works even better as the electrical stimulation of the element is more direct.

I sent my theories to the professor and he called me a mad man but said he would start the testing on brain organoids to create human biotics. I will work on the mechanical uses of element zero. I could preform squad level biotics with just my cyberware.

It was only 2 hours until we got back to earth and parked at planet express Leela stepped of the ship a little scratched up but doing well, Bender was covered in bullet holes that I would have to patch, and I was perfectly fine.

"Schleese. What happened to you guys!" I heard the voice of my lovely girlfriend Amy.

"Stupid fucking rebels kidnapped us for dealing with the cannibalon government." I said shaking my head in annoyance. "Now I have to buff bender out and fix up his holes, and Leela needs to see a doctor."

"You didn't get shot?" She asked with large worried eyes. Damn it I hate making her worry, but I love living a life of adventure so I can't really stop worrying her.

"Oh, I did but they just used normal ballistic weapons so it wasn't any big thing." I said trying to downplay how dangerous it was.

"Still ballistic weapons are dangerous if they hit you in the right spot." She said. Still worried about me getting in to deep. Wanting to stress to me to take care of myself.

"I have ballistic weave under my skin so it's not that dangerous I can't be taken out by ballistic weapons or energy weapons." I said trying to comfort her and it seems to have done the job because she hugs me.

"Just. Be careful okay? You made a promise to always come back to me." She says in a small voice.

"Ill keep that promise. That's another promise." I said joking lightly.

"Im holding you to it." She said with a small giggle.

We hung out for a bit but I had to get to the lab the professor has probably already got the brain organoids ready for dark matter injection. We need to test the bonding potential before we even think about human trials. Though with nanomachines constantly making repairs to the organoids every time they don't bond correctly it shouldn't be too big of an issue to figure out the right bonding process.

I walked into the professor's workshop, it was cluttered and chaotic but everything had a purpose. I walked over to the professor who was still wearing his coke bottle glasses despite looking far younger. Apparently, he had always had bad eyesight.

"sup professor." Was all I could think to say. The professor was standing in front of what I can only describe as a gel pack filled with nutrients that the organoids could convert into anything they need to grow and to keep them alive.

"Nothing yet fry. The bonding has failed over 300 times so far. I'm truly starting to believe that it is impossible. And even if we do find the right bonding parameters, we need to develop an implant to allow someone to control their own nervous system." The professor said laying out problems with my idea. I didn't care though it should be possible and I had already created the implant. Though I wasn't going to tell him that yet. Better to make it look like it took at least a few days.

"Just keep working on it professor I have a hunch it's going to work. Besides, it's not like you're really doing anything other than recording what the nanobots are doing."

"Yes, yes ignore my contribution will you. if this works, I'm the one who gets biotics first." The professor said rather petulantly.

"Yes of course all mighty professor. You can have first dibs at biotics. But just so you im the one who's going to install the implant on you." I said in a sing song voice and the professor stoped dead in his tracks.

"Maybe you can go first."

"Nope a deal is a deal. Lab rat." I said laughing.

The professor an I continued talking for a long while. Going over the different specifics of the organoids biotic bonding process. Theoretically if we can figure out how to induce bonding in the organoids, we'll be able to induce bonding in humans. Anyone can figure out how to use biotics without an implant but the implant makes it safer. The only problem left is that the biotics will be far weaker than seen in mass effect. I still need to create something to work as a biotic amp otherwise the biotics will never be as strong as they were in mass effect.

I didn't expect for this to be a short process; it definitely won't be finished by the time we go on the cruise.

The professor sent out a message announcing to the crew that all senior members were getting a vacation on a cruise ship. The SS TITANIC. Because we all know good things are associated with that name.

When I was finished going over the specifics with professor Farnsworth I headed out to find Amy we were staying at her place tonight which mean watching god awful future tv.

(A/N I wrote this entire thing with just one hand because I messed up my wrist by dropping concrete pavers on it. So it's a little detail sparse, and shorter than the usual 2k words.)
